The Devils have re-signed left wing Jay Pandolfo and defenseman Bryce Salvador, the team announced this morning.
Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello also announced that they have passed on the option on Sergei Brylin's contract for $1.52 million. Lamoriello did not rule out signing Brylin at a later date, but said Brylin will become an unrestricted free agent at noon. Arron Asham will also become an UFA.
The team also re-signed David Clarkson, who would have been a restricted free agent and Barry Tallackson, a potential Group VI UFA, and signed draft picks Matt Halischuk (2007) and Vladimir Zharkov (2006).
Lamorello said the decision came down between Pandolfo and Brylin. "It was a very difficult situation," Lamoriello said.
Salvador received a a four-year contract at $2.9 million per season. His deal does not include a no-movement clause of any kind. I don't have details on Pandolfo's deal, yet.
I'll give updates and more detail when I acquire them.
Wow that's a lot of money

Will there be live coverage of the event on the internet somewhere?

I hope Brylin is not back. I love the guy for what he did, but it's time to get some new blood into this team.

here's hoping they gave Brylin 2 years $2M total instead of 1 @ 1.52, but I expect that's doubtful

no more than 1-year for Brylin please.

That's less than Bryce gets in an open market. I think it's a nice price.

Love you Sarge..but please leave already!

Did not want to see Brylin back... I hope he understands that he will be getting 4th line minutes.
While I felt Pandolfo was expendable, it's nice to see Lou reward a guy who is loyal to the Devils for all these years.
Salvador for 2.9 mil per is pretty good. I guess there is some kind of no trade clause in there for him to sign for that price.
Posted by: frankied | July 01, 2008 at 11:07 AM
I will still take Sarge if it's a 2 year $2mil deal
Posted by: Njdev23 | July 01, 2008 at 11:09 AM
How is 2.9 good. We traded him for Cam Jansen.
Posted by: Ali-P | July 01, 2008 at 11:10 AM
The way the cap is going up each year 2.9m per for Salvador does not seem too bad

By the way, TSN is reporting that Rolston won't sign with TB before noon has decided to see what offers he can get on the open market.
Posted by: TG | July 01, 2008 at 11:11 AM
Cam was better than sending a pick. He was never going to fit in to Sutter's system and couldn't do anything but take running leaps at people. But he was sure fun to watch doing it.
Posted by: Pat | July 01, 2008 at 11:11 AM
True but i'd rather put that money to areas that we need. He is a common d-man.
Posted by: Ali-P | July 01, 2008 at 11:12 AM
Brylin should get two years and for the LOSERS who don't like Sergei..YOU ARE NOT REAL DEVILS FANS.

This is a great start!!! lets keep it up! i hope lou goes "deep sea fishing" and lands us a couple of whoppers!

It's pretty sad that we have to wait with baited breath, on 7/1 to hear if we signed two of our marginal journeymen and be glad that we were able to sign an NHL third (really pushing second) line stay at home defenceman. What the hell took so long, I hope we dont go through another 7/1 to hear the same old thing"Great!! We just got Glenn Metropolit for 4 years"
Posted by: TeGraxe | July 01, 2008 at 11:15 AM
TG great article BTW today, i still am not that high on Rolston for the amount of time and cash he wants but there is little doubt he would help this team in the short term

all i'm saying is that how is bryce worth $2.9 mil when st. louis was willing to let him go for only Cam Jansen in return. I know there was the upcoming contract negotiations but still though. you can spin it anyway you can but this signing hasn't help the team improve from last year and it is getting frustrating. and what took so long to get this signed. it seems like bryce got everything he wanted. Lou wake the f up your a sleep at the wheel.
Posted by: Ali-P | July 01, 2008 at 11:16 AM
Pandolfo is still solid....but Brylin probably needed to retire. Hopefully the Frenzy gets us something good...and not a Metropolit.
Posted by: Chris Wassel | July 01, 2008 at 11:17 AM
TeGraxe my thoughts exactly.
Posted by: Ali-P | July 01, 2008 at 11:17 AM
Jouneymen? They've played with only one team for their entire careers. Do you know what a journeyman is?
And anyone who calls Salvador an run-of-the mill defenseman just adds to the notion that Devil fans are an unsophisticated lot.
Posted by: Just some guy | July 01, 2008 at 11:18 AM
@tegraxe
i'd rather have glenn metropolit than bryce.
Posted by: mikeford | July 01, 2008 at 11:19 AM
ali-p: St Louis gave Salvador away because he was going to be an unrestricted free agent. They did not want to lose him for nothing. That does not diminish the value of Salvador. He is a solid 2nd pairing defenseman. When Colin white makes 3 million a year, 2.9 for Salvador is good.
Posted by: frankied | July 01, 2008 at 11:20 AM
It's a disgrace to call Pandolfo a marginal journeyman. The guy was a Selke finalist last year and probably the team's best player for the first quarter of the 07-08 season.
