Fedor almost a Devil
Some of you asked yesterday about Fedor Fedorov, so I checked in today with Devils general manager Lou Lamorielllo about that. It sounds as if he has signed with the team, though Lamoriello stopped short of saying that.
"It hasn't been finalized yet, but there's a good chance," Lamoriello said.
Fedorov, a 27-year-old center, is the younger brother of Sergei Fedorov. He got in 18 total NHL games with the Rangers and Vancouver earlier in his career. He played last season for Moscow Dynamo in Russia and put up 12 goals and 13 assists in 49 games. It appears he's destined to play in Lowell of the AHL.
"We'll see," Lamoriello said. "He's a big, strong kid. We'll see how he does."
I asked Lamoriello about the rumors about him being interested Sergei Fedorov, a 38-year-old center who finished up last season with Washington, but he would not comment on that.

I finally got the numbers on Barry Tallackson and Matt Halischuk's contracts. Tallackson signed for one year, $475,000. Halischuk signed for three years and a total of $1,762,500 or an average of $587,500. His contract pays $562,500 in the first year, $587,500 in the second and $612,500 in the third.
I'm still waiting on Vladimir Zharkov's deal.
TG as soon as u find out who the Rangers signed just comment it here lol!

nvm it was Naslund and Kalinin, Naslund for 2 years Kalinin for 1
Posted by: LuziferDevs | July 03, 2008 at 04:54 PM
umm is it just me or are the Rangers looking impressive?
Posted by: LuziferDevs | July 03, 2008 at 04:55 PM
It's Dmitri Kalinin and Markus Naslund.
Glen Sather just said they're moving on without Jaromir Jagr, though he left the door open a crack for him coming back if he doesn't sign in Russia.

Naslund.. Redden..Zederdev (sp).. Gomez.. Drury.. Rozsival.. Kalinin... and even the possibility of Jagr.. looks like its gonna be between the Devils and Rangers for the division. .. with all due respect to phily and pitt.
Vancouver is offering Morrison 1.9 for 1 year. dirt cheep.
I really would like just 1 top pairing defensemen.. i'd feel a lot better right now.

I wonder if LL would consider bringing Sergei Fedorov in for one season...but he might be asking for close to $3M per

don't be too impressed by Naslund, Redden and Zherdev...Naslund and Redden are on the decline (especially Naslund) and Ken Hitchcock couldn't wait to get rid of Zherdev
Posted by: Brick | July 03, 2008 at 05:02 PM
Modnarm - Drury/Zherdev/Gomez/Redden/Naslund wont even come close to help Rangers win the division. The replaced Jagr with Naslund, who is not gonna put up Jagr-like numbers. And I guess you could say Zherdev replaces Shanahan; zherdev is gonna end up being a big bust, watch.. Roszival is a joke on defense why do u think nobody signed but the Rags?? Kalinin.. who cares anyway.. they have no defense.. Redden is so over-rated its not even funny and his contract is ridiculous.

ya Sergei Fedorov finished last year well with Washington and had a good World Championship's run maybe he wud consider a one year stint with the Black & Red?
Posted by: LuziferDevs | July 03, 2008 at 05:15 PM
The rags gave up practically nothing to get Zherdev... that could end up being a steal for them. I wish the Devils acquired him.
Posted by: frankied | July 03, 2008 at 05:18 PM
The caps already re-signed Sergei...
Posted by: Brodeur30 | July 03, 2008 at 05:21 PM
Jagr made that team go. Enigmatic and at times lazy, but completely dominated as the season closed. Rangers are a worse team for letting him go.
Posted by: Brodie30 | July 03, 2008 at 05:24 PM
Brodeur30--
you sure about that?
Posted by: pando20rules | July 03, 2008 at 05:27 PM
Getting Zherdev was a good deal for the Rangers...signing Redden and Näslund wasn't.
The Rangers never learn. They keep building their team through free agency, and it always works out perfectly for the right?...
Suckers!

Brodeur30, Federov has not been resigned by the Caps.
Posted by: FOTC | July 03, 2008 at 05:30 PM
Sorry, I thought for certain that Fedorov re-signed, but it doesn't appear to be the case...
I remember them saying they want him for another 1-2 years to mentor the youngsters like semin and backstrom

Remove Jagr, Avery, Straka, Tyutin, Backman and replace them with Redden, Zherdev, Naslund,Kalinin and Voros? Rangers are different, not better!
Posted by: Njdev23 | July 03, 2008 at 05:32 PM
WELL SAID Njdev23!
Posted by: modnarm | July 03, 2008 at 05:40 PM
...but u forgot Shanahan!
Posted by: modnarm | July 03, 2008 at 05:40 PM
The key (as much as we hate his clown @ss) was Avery. Have you ever looked at the rags record with and without Avery in the lineup? It's a huge difference. Well below .500 without him. Redden and Naslund are CLEARLY on the decline. Kalinin is a turnover MACHINE. Sabres fans were sick of him...
As njdev said, they're a different team. That doesn't mean they're better. A lot of things are going to go well for them. Can redden turn his game around? Can they motivate Zherdev? Can Naslund score 25 again?
There's two really good things (amongst other things) that we have going into this next season.
1) Gionta's in a contract year. I see him putting in 30+ so he can get paid again.
2) Zajac's in a contract year. He'll be motivated and I think he bounces back from the soph slump. We CANNOT put him on the 4th line. He needs minutes and he needs to be playing with skilled players. Putting him on the 4th line with Brylin/Rupp/Clarkson etc doesn't help him progress as a young center. It stunts his growth.

"A lot of things are going to go well for them"
I meant to say, A lot of things are going to have to go well for them for all these moves to pay off.
Posted by: Brodeur30 | July 03, 2008 at 05:45 PM
With the rangers moves, and if Jagr resigns with them, Give them the east right now! HATE TO SAY IT, but its the truth
Posted by: Hattrick4419 | July 03, 2008 at 05:46 PM
Zherdev is a much better player than Shanahan at this point and Naslund while he probably isn't a better player than Jagr is a better fit to play with Gomez. The only negatives for the Rangers is they lose Avery's spark, but as Buffalo and Pittsburgh proved the past two playoffs, if you ignore Avery's histrionics, he's pretty much irrelevant. I do feel for Jagr because the Rangers clearly didn't want him back and should have just told him that from the beginning. All in all, I still greatly prefer what the Rangers have done thus far to what the Devils have done.
Posted by: CB | July 03, 2008 at 05:52 PM
How exactly would they sign Jagr when they used up all their cap space? Sather held a press conference and said he would not be back.
Posted by: Brodie30 | July 03, 2008 at 05:56 PM
Devs will always be better
