Full 2008-09 schedule with breakdown (CORRECTED)
Here's the Devils' full schedule for the 2008-09. As posted yesterday, the season opener is Oct. 10 vs. the Islanders at Prudential Center. That's a 7 p.m. start.
CORRECTION: There were errors in the schedule the NHL sent out earlier. The Sunday, Dec. 21 home game against Philadelphia is a 1 p.m. start (not 7 p.m.) and the Sunday, Jan. 4 home game against Ottawa is a 5 p.m. faceoff (not 7 p.m.). Also, I miscounted the number of Saturday and Sunday games. There are seven Saturday home games and five Sunday home games.
Schedule highlights:
**After opening the season at home, the Devils play four consecutive road games, beginning with a a Saturday, Oct. 11 visit to Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins, before returning to The Rock to face Sean Avery and the Dallas Stars on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
**The Devils face the Rangers for the first time on Monday, Oct. 13 at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers visit Prudential Center for the first time on Wednesday, Nov. 12.
**The schedule features seven Saturday home games, including 1 p.m. starts against Florida on Feb. 28 and against Carolina for the regular season finale on April 11. Last season, the Devils had only five Saturday home games.
**The Devils also have 11 Friday night home games and five Sunday home games, including 1 p.m. starts Philadelphia on Dec. 21, vs. San Jose on Feb. 15 and vs. Philadelphia on March 1.
**The Devils visit the defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings on Saturday, Nov. 8. The Red Wings do not come to New Jersey.
**The team will be away for Thanksgiving again. The five-game trip begins on Sunday, Nov, 23 at Tampa Bay and also includes a Thanksgiving eve game in Florida and Saturday, Nov. 29 game at Pittsburgh. It concludes with visits to Philadelphia (Dec. 4) and Montreal (Dec. 6).
**The longest road trip is a six-game trip that begins Jan. 10 in Los Angeles and ends Jan. 19 in Nashville. The trip also includes stops in Anaheim (Jan. 11), Vancouver (Jan. 13), Columbus (Jan. 16) and Long Island (Jan. 17)
**Their longest homestand is five games, beginning Feb. 7 against Los Angeles and ending Feb. 15 against San Jose (a 1 p.m. start).

How does it make sense for us to play the Canucks away when we are facing the rest of their division at home???

Mar. 27 at Chicago, 8:30 p.m.
Mar. 28 Carolina, 7 p.m.
rough travel and losing an hour in time zone

Thanks. Seems like a good amount of Sat/Sun games this year. I hope they offer a weekend partial ticket plan this year.

Awesome schedule. Only one six game road trip, our longest.
And a Devils/Rangers home game on my birthday. couldn't ask for a better present!

For those who like the 7:30 start times, 10/29 against Toronto appears to be for you!
I wonder why one game is 7:30 and the rest are 7...
Posted by: Josh | July 17, 2008 at 01:29 PM
Probably cause that game is against Toronto, which fits into their canadian hockey night TV schedule probably.

Re: 7:30 start vs. Toronto
I'm guessing Canadian TV wants the game at 7:30.

I see all of you season ticket holders will have many weeks where you will be attending 3 and sometimes as many as 5 games in a week. This should make the guys happy who will be purchasing their tickets on either stubhub or the new Devil ticket exchange where you season ticket holders will be dumping your seats at below the discounted price the Devils charged you.

Thanks TG. By the way, you may want to update your first bullet item: "After opening the season at home, the Devils play four consecutive home games". I had to re-read that a few times before understanding that you meant consecutive ROAD games!
Eight weekend 1pm games. I wonder if that means there will be some NBC coverage, or if we'll get snubbed by higher ratings-grabbers.
A little off-topic, but I hear that the Flyers may play a game or two at the Spectrum before its torn down after the season. Any idea who that's against? I'd love to see Claude Lemieux score a winning goal with seconds to go from that cherished spot just inside the blue line (sorry, just a bit nostalgic for '95!)

Thanks. Fixed it. I read over that three times and didn't pick it up. That's why it's difficult to proof read your own copy. You read what you meant to write and not what you actually wrote.

The Flyers' schedule does not indicate that any of their home games will be played at the Spectrum.

Very happy with all the Friday/Saturday home games, throw in the 3 Sundays and that's half the schedule. Beautiful.

I will be at one of the Devils-Sens games in Jersey for my first trip to a Devils Home Game!
i will also be at the Devils-Sabres games in Buffalo!

TG
I see Montrael has the all-star game this year in January. Any idea when or if there will be another all-star game in New Jersey?

Woo hoo! Thank you, NHL, for sending the Devils to Vancouver again. This time I'll remember to actually wake up and hit ticketmaster when they go on sale. :) (I live near Seattle, see...so this whole "they hadn't been here since 2001 and then got punked last year" thing, that is nice that they're going to be here again this year.)

I think there is a long waiting list for the all-star game, but commissioner Gary Bettman did say last season that Prudential Center would be a good possible site in the future. I wouldn't count on it for several years, though.

I've read that the Flyers won't have a sendoff regular season game at the Spectrum because there aren't enough seats to appease the season ticket holders. Rumor has it that they will try to squeeze in a preseason game at the old barn, though.

I think, and perhaps TG can look into this, that the 730pm start vs Toronto is a "tester."
It is a weeknight game and the Devils want to see the type of response they get for a non-rival, Wednesday night game at the 730 time slot so they perhaps alter the times for next season's games.
Posted by: NjDEVSFN95 | July 17, 2008 at 07:16 PM
To edit my own post: perhaps it is at 730 for a Toronto pregame show, but then why is the Tuesday April 7th game at 700pm?
Posted by: NjDEVSFN95 | July 17, 2008 at 07:18 PM
I'm sure it's not "a tester". I would guess it's TV related.
Posted by: TG | July 17, 2008 at 11:12 PM
It's probably a case where TSN in Canada wants a game at 7:30 PM, whereas it's likely Rogers Sportsnet or Leafs TV is airing the April 7th game.
