Salvador "comfortable" as a Devil
Bryce Salvador said he spent “two or three hours over the last couple of days” talking on the telephone with Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello. All of those conversations only made Salvador feel more confident that re-signing with the Devils was the best thing for him, though he played for only two months in New Jersey after being acquired from St. Louis in a trade deadline day deal for Cam Janssen.
Of course, a four-year contract at $2.9 million per season didn’t hurt either.
“I just felt really comfortable in the system and I liked the group of guys that are there and the coaching staff and Lou,” the 32-year-old defenseman said. “Just for me to get that feeling in that sort of time period told me that it would be the right decision going back.”
Although Salvador said last week that he would like a no-movement clause, he said it never was mentioned in the negotiations.
“The more you think about the no-movement clause, if you’re playing the way you’re supposed to be playing, you won’t be moved and if you’re not playing up to standards, then you get moved,” Salvador said. “That’s the business. I’m not too concerned about that. I’m happy to be part of the team and, hopefully, a part that is going to help the team win.”
Salvador was happy to see Lamoriello re-signed Jay Pandolfo, too.
“Most people only see what’s on the ice and what a lot people fail to see is what goes on in the dressing room, how important that glue and how important that chemistry is," Salvador said. "Just from the couple of months that I was there, I just saw how important Jay was in the room. Everybody knows how good he is on the ice and what he provides on the ice, but a big part of that decision there is the character that he has.”

By the way, former Devil farmhand Aaron Voros signed with the Rangers.
He's a solid bigger Dman. I'm happy. Plus at close to 3 mil per season, at 32 years old, how can you be pissed.

Is there a former Devil or Devil's prospect the Rangers won't sign?

Huet to the Blackhawks? That makes no sense with the 'Bulin Wall there.... a trade in the works for the khabibulin?

I noted below that the Devils expressed interest in Tucker. I'm not sure he's worth that money.

when you see a journeyman d-man like Jeff Finger get $3.5M a year, the Salvador signing has all of a sudden become a bargain.

Vancouver sent an offer sheet to David Backes of St. Louia
what RFA's could we target other then O'Sullivan in LA

Glad we passed on Tucker...after his dirty elbow on Nieds in the playoffs, I would never want to see him in a Devils jersey.

That wasn't Tucker...that was Tie Domi.

I wished Philly had the cap room remaining to sign Avery and Tucker, so they could put together the scum line of Avery-Tucker-Downie, and the entire line could be suspended for a total 240 games

Andy Strickland is reporting Atlanta is offering Campbell $8.5M per, are they insane ? for a one-way d-man ? Rolston and Roszival is looking better by the minute (Roszival is afraid to shoot the puck, while Rolston does nothing but shoot it)

good call - I hate Tucker anyway...we can win without dirty players
Posted by: Mike | July 01, 2008 at 04:31 PM
Man, I am going to hurt myself if one of the big guys doesn't get signed. Normally, I wouldn't care but I feel like this team owes us after running out that team last year. We need someone who can score. What do you hear TG?

With McCabe's no-trade and the recent signing of Finger, Toronto may look to trade Pavel Kubina. Makes $5M this season and next. They need offense and forwards, so maybe a deal including Gionta would work. Still would have over $8M under the cap.

Hey TG,
Have you talked to Lou about Jordan and getting him signed? I'm sure that since he had surgery at the end of last season, Lou could be putting a hold on his signing pending an evaluation.
Posted by: Kelly | July 01, 2008 at 04:34 PM
Kubina is very slow and not mobile, sorry, we don't need another Matvichuk on defense
Posted by: mikeP | July 01, 2008 at 04:35 PM
I'm looking forward to watching Sal crush some People next season, I would Love to see Lou make a deal a bring back Arnott, wishful thinking right?

Comparing Kubina to Matvichuk? Please.

Posted by: mike | July 01, 2008 at 04:46 PM
Yes Hossa's real close, but Edmonton only has $4 million in cap space. Good luck with that
Posted by: NJSwampdragon | July 01, 2008 at 04:50 PM
Sweet hopefully Edmonton will go over and have to trade Horcoff to us. Lol not happening i know.
Posted by: Xander Crews | July 01, 2008 at 04:53 PM
At least he'd be out west then and wouldn't be able to torch Marty in the shootout anymore.

please post a link with any details of the Hossa/Edmonton talks
