Center Pascal Rheaume, a member of the Devils' 2003 Stanley-Cup winning team, is back in the organization after signing an AHL contract with Lowell. The Lowell Devils also announced today that they have signed goaltenders Dave Caruso and Jason Smith and defenseman Ryan Gunderson.
This will be Rheaume's fourth time in the organization. Now 35, Rheaume played in Vienna, Austria last year, putting up 11 goals and 18 assists in 35 games.
Doesn't effect us much at all.

Remember when Tampa Bay had his sister play 2 preseason games in net as a publicity stunt. If I remember correctly she played for the NJ Rock N Rollers as well.

I think it's good to have Pascal in Lowell, but I just don't see a good spot on the roster for him right now.
Any injuries or issues, it will be good to see him get a shot.

I doubt Pascal will ever play in NJ this season. His previous NHL experience helps when the Devils have to dress a certain number of veterans in every preseason game, though.
As for Bouwmeester, again, he's not going to be traded at least until the second half of the season -- so you can stop beating that drum for a while. As I've stated previously, now that he's under contract for one year, according to the CBA, he can't sign beyond 2008-09 until after Jan. 1. And no team will give up anything significant for him without getting him locked up beyond this season. So, it makes little sense for Florida to deal him.
If Florida ends up out of the playoff race again, then they might deal him before the deadline. But, at that point, it won't make a lot of sense for him to sign long-term with anyone when he can become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. So, it's likely he would be a playoff rental.

Next up: Cody Cobol and Rhett N. Fortran

I know that it is for some Vet experience in Lowell, but I've always liked Pascal good to see Him back in the fold. No matter how many times He gets traded, He comes back the first chance He gets. He shows loyalty and You know how much Lou likes that.
Posted by: Shari | August 05, 2008 at 06:20 PM
Hey TG is the Preseason NHL Vet rule still 8 players with min of 40 games previous season or at least 100 NHL games experience?
Posted by: JOE D | August 05, 2008 at 06:38 PM
I believe that's correct.
Posted by: TG | August 05, 2008 at 06:58 PM
Bouwmeester will be the prize catch of all the UFAs-to-be at next February's trade deadline. And the team that gets him has to take the chance that he won't sign with them because it seems likely he'll test the market next summer.

alzheimers - no next up will be Tommy A coming out of retirement, Randy Mckay putting the skates on for a trial contract and Mike Peluso shedding 80lbs on Nutri System to try and reunite the crash line
bring them all back this years theme is "The Retro Years at the Rock"

Shari - Pascal comes back the first chance he gets/shows loyalty? I doubt there were any other teams interested.

It's all about making a weak Lowell team just a bit more competitive. They need the veteran leadership and losing all the time doesn't help player development. TG any word if Grant Marshall is coming back also?

Rough start for Tedenby in Lake Placid:
"Sweden suffered an injury blow in its 3-2 win against USA White Tuesday night when Mattias Tedenby was struck in the mouth trying to block a shot.
Tedenby dropped immediately to the ice and trainers were called quickly to the scene. Tedenby, the Devils first pick in the 2008 NHL Entry draft, was helped off the ice, but still under his own power. After the game, Swedish officials were still awaiting word on Tedenby’s status as he was still at the local hospital.
I’ll try to get an update tomorrow."

the NYT Hockey Blog has a new quote from Sarge, who is saying that Sutter is the reason he's not returning to the team. I still wish him well in Russia:
http://slapshot.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/08/05/the-morning-skate-two-hawks-goalies-one-net-brylin-vs-sutter-and-mats-mania-continues/
Sarge and Sutter: In an interview with Sports-Express, ex-Devil Sergei Brylin explained why he left New Jersey this summer to play with SKA in the KHL. telling Maxim Sharifanov, “With the arrival of new coach Brent Sutter, my role with the team changed greatly. I didn’t see any prospects of staying with the Devils for another year.
“Last season, I played little, so there was no point in risking another year of my career. After all, I am already 34. So I decided to go with a more stable option, and so I moved to St. Petersburg.”
In previous U.S. interviews concerning his departure, Brylin acknowledged he didn’t play as he had in previous seasons and he felt there was no future remaining with the Devils, but this is the first time he’s mentioned the part Sutter played in his decision.
Brylin was a versatile and reliable player for New Jersey, one of the five Devils — and the least known and appreciated — who played on all three Stanley Cup teams, Martin Brodeur, Ken Daneyko, Scott Niedermayer and Scott Stevens being the others.
Almost always a “plus” player, he is a strong skater and smart presence at both ends of the ice. He was a big reason why the best Devils teams were able to roll all their lines and maintain the same level of intensity in all three zones.
Brylin added that ex-NHL assistant coach Barry Smith, the SKA head coach, and Igor Larionov, the Hockey Hall of Famer who now runs the club’s hockey operations, both played key roles in his choosing St. Petersburg.
He says he will continue to make his summer home in New Jersey.

That's about as close as you'll ever see Sarge come to complaining. Sounds like a man who has come to grips with the fact that his skills are declining and he knows he's not getting regular minutes in the NHL anymore except on an injury fill-in basis. It's always hard parting ways with lifers but in this case it was a good move for both parties.

Here is a pretty bad translation of what happened to Tedenby from a Swedish website:
Nasty munskada for Mattias Tedenby
The second match without a grid. When small it directly for HV71's succéjunior Mattias Tedenby. When the Swedish juniorlandslaget played against the USA in Lake Placid had Tedenby interrupt the match with four outcasts teeth and 40 stitches in the mouth.
-- He rang this morning, when he had returned from the hospital. He had received a lot of painkillers. He was very subdued. Very sad for Mattias, "says his dad for Tedenby Robert Jnytt.se.
While the HV71 going to Finland and played in the Nordic Trophy are juniors Mattias Tedenby in the United States to play Junior Summer Camp. But in all likelihood, the tournament is now over for Tedenby.
In the first change in the second period covered the 18-year old a backskott, but the shot was misdirected and Tedenby got the puck to the face.
Four outcasts teeth and 40 stitches
After four outcasts framtänder and 40 stitches in the mouth rang the phone with dad Robert.
-- He must bring up the worm a while. It takes a while for it to heal. I do not know if he has sytt internist, but it must have heal up first. Hopefully, he is back in a week.
Sweden won the match with 3-2 after two goals of the hill Nichlas Torp. If Tedenby play more in the tournament is unclear.
-- He may even go home now. He would check it again. Possibly, he is left, but he did not know myself, "says Robert Tedenby.
The short of it is Tedenby lost four teeth and got 40 stitches. This is from the website jntt.se as reported by Daniel Hultqvist.

Argh. The website is jyntt.se. Sorry 'bout that.

As long as he received a lot of painkillers, he won't be too sad. In fact, he may have a great remainder of the summer. Hook me up, Matty!
