Corrente: I was brutal

Devils rookie defenseman Matt Corrente didn't sugar coat his self evaluation of his play in tonight's 4-1 loss to the Flyers in both team's preseason opener at Wachovia Center.

"I felt I was brutal to be honest with you," he said. "I don't know if was too much hype for me, thinking about it too much for too long. I'm pretty frustrated right now. I think I was thinking about this game for too long. There were a lot of nerves coming into it. I didn't think I played the way I could have played tonight."

Corrente was on the ice for two goals against and his turnover in the slot led directly to the first of Steve Downie's two goals, which made it  2-0 with 1:12 left in the first period.

"I thought he was a little uptight," Devils coach Brent Sutter said. "The pace of the game seemed to catch up with him tonight and part of that could be nerves."

"I tried to get better every shift, but I couldn't get in a groove," Corrente said. "It just wasn't working for me tonight."

Devils goaltender Kevin Weekes said he his left arm (glove side) felt good in tonight's game and had no trouble with it. Weekes had off-season surgery to repair a torn biceps tendon in the arm.

Just a reminder that Tuesday's AHL game against Philadelphia at Prudential Center's practice rink is open to the public. Admission is free.

This is off topic, but looking at the Blues, Hurricanes, and Sabres third jersey. I think we should make the old green, red and white jerseys our third one.

Shake it off kid we need you to pound some blue in 2 days!

not for nothin.. but.. if the 'nerves' don't subside by start of the season, we may see Greene or Brookbank on the ice this year and Corrente getting acclimated to pro hockey in the AHL for a season.

I think up next is group 2 isn't it? Or are the group 1 guys going to play again? We have yet to see parise's line and the rest. I think we could do well with that group.

It's only one game but it would be stupid to rush our top defensive prospect. He's clearly putting too much pressure on himself. If I'm Sutter and this doesn't improve I just tell him he's going to Lowell when the season starts to take the pressure off of him.

The kid might need that season or two of AHL seasoning. The fact that our defense isn't what it used to be is the only reason people are looking to him to make the team. Almost all of the kids the Devils get don't get a spot without that season or two down in the A.

will I see any of you today at 4pm? I'll be there supporting the AHL Devils.

Working, so i wont make the AHL game, but i will be there in Sec 216 on wed with my lungs going as loud as ever
