Kevin Weekes will get the start in net for the Devils in their preseason opener Monday night in Philadelphia.
Devils coach Brent Sutter said today that Weekes would play the first half of the game and Scott Clemmensen will play the second half.
It will be Weekes' first game action since he had surgery this summer to repair a torn biceps tendon in his left arm (glove side). Weekes said his arm has not given him any problems so far in training camp.
"It will be fun to get in a game and see where I'm at and how it's feeling," Weekes said. "I'm looking forward to it.
Sutter confirmed what I posted earlier, saying the Devils will take the entire group that was on the ice first for the first two days of training camp to Philadelphia for the game (other than goaltender Martin Brodeur).
"I think when you have a shorter period of time , you have to try to collectively get something going as a group and be as prepared as well as you can be to play that game, which is two days after camp opened up," Sutter explained.
Just to review, the lineup in Philadelphia will be:
Forwards: Elias-Rolston-Gionta; Rupp-Holik-Zubrus; Fedorov-Vrana-Bergfors; Leblond-Rheaume-Palmieri.
Defense: White-Mottau; Oduya-Corrente; Eckford-Brookbank.
Goalies: Weekes, Clemmensen.

Sutter said preseason games in Philadelphia have changed a lot since he played for the Islanders.
"It's a big difference playing in exhibition games today than it was 15, 20 years ago," Sutter said. "Whenever we played the Rangers or Flyers when I was on the Islanders, you kind of new what to expect, what was going to happen in the exhibition (games) because the tone needed to be set for your rivalry right at that point in time. But that was in the days of all-out war. But the game has changed and the rules have changed and you don't see that as much as you used to, hardly at all...My first three or four years in the league, I don't remember playing the Rangers in an exhibition game without there being a brawl."
No Clarkson. Thank god it's not on TV my wife would have to be committed!

Hey TG, I know that you said the games will be on MSG and MSG+, but will they also be on the radio? Since I'm in Canada I can't watch the games on TV but I was hoping that they would either be streamed live online or be on WFAN.

Wonder if LeBlond goes with Cote at some point early on.

The radio broadcast -- with Matt Loughlin and Sherry Ross -- of all of the Devils' preseason games will be streamed on newjerseydevils.com and wfan.com, but it won't be on the radio.

What time is the game by the way?

It looks like the Flyers will be showing the game via webcast on their site. My comp at work is slow, so I couldn't tell for sure.
Also if you want you can mute it and listen to Matt and Sherry.

That makes sense. It's still baseball season and if you think nobody watches Devils TV broadcasts I can only imagine how bad their radio ratings are.

Any word on the rookies and which ones will be in the lineup in Philly tonight. We Oshawa Generals & windsor spitfire fans would like to find out if our OHL players are in the lineup. Thanks

Fans need to start going to Devils home games period, then maybe the team will splurge the extra bucks to put our preseason games on webcasts/etc.
