Devils captain Jamie Langenbrunner will make the bus trip with the team to Philadelphia tonight and hopes to play in Saturday's rematch with the Flyers after leaving tonight's game with what the team is calling a lower body injury.
"We'll see tomorrow," Langenbrunner said. "I'm going down to Philly with the team and we'll see how it feels tomorrow. I tried to go back out, but just couldn't get moving well enough and I wasn't going to help anything. We'll see if I'm feeling better by tomorrow. I don't think it's that bad."
Langenbrunner was injured when he was driven into the right wing boards by Flyers defenseman Luca Sbisa in the second period. He tried to get up an continue playing, but had to go back to the bench.
"I was going around the defensemen and went into the boards a little awkward," Langenbrunner said. "I just kind of banged myself a little bit."
Although Langenbrunner said it was his side that hit the boards (right) that was hurting, Devils trainer Richards Stinziano appeared to be looking at his left leg on the bench before the two went to the locker room. And Langenbrunner seemed to be favoring his left leg/hip when he talked to the media after the game.
Devils coach Brent Sutter was hopeful that Langenbrunner can play Saturday. He said the team would not call up an extra defenseman as a precaution and would dress seven defensemen if Langenbrunner can't play. That would mean that Sheldon Brookbank would make his season debut.
"It's nothing serious," Langenbrunner said. "It really isn't."
I'm confused, did you mean to say call up an extra forward if Langenbrunner can't play?
