In case you missed it in the Sunday edition of The Record, the Devils' Patrik Elias beat out the Rangers' Adam Graves in the voting for the top left wing in the history of the two area NHL teams.
Elias received 74 percent of the votes to Graves' 26 percent.
The competition resumes Wednesday with the voting for the top center in history for the Devils and the Rangers.
Check it out at www.northjersey.com/faceoff
I am shocked that we actually voted more than Rnagers fans.

Thanks for another great week of Devs coverage TG! I know that Devils fans can be especially annoying when things aren't going our way so (ie. any comment in the last two weeks regarding Bergfors/Vrana/Sutter/Rupp/Brookbank) so kudos for putting up with the chaos.
Glad to see Patty win it. Although, according to Larry Brooks, Lou should get rid of him, Madden, and Gionta...

Oh silly, Rangers fans aren't literate.

Foxsports did an article on the Devils

Hey Robbie thanks for the link. I would never thought that Lou even thinks to trade Elias and why would he even considers that move. I think Elias wants to finish in Jersey.

I'm glad Elias won.
I don't understand why The Record isn't posting the results to this poll on its Web site. The paper wants us to vote online but then doesn't post the results there. No info. No graphics. Nothing. All potential online voters are going to lose interest in this fictional "competition" quickly.

Not a very good article. Elias has been declining steadily, but he is still one of our top players. Even if we end up bringing in a goalie, I hope it isn't at the expense of one of our better forwards because it will be a temporary situation. I would rather tank this season and keep our guys for a strong 2009-2010.

I think all those articles is just regular media BS. They have to have something to write base on little piece of info and rest they own speculations. No offence to TG.

I read that article on Elias too.. I didn't think it was very good. He maybe in a decline, but I don't think it is entirely his fault.
I obviously can't speak for him, but I get the impression from Elias that he likes Jersey, and he wants to finish here.
I plan on attending the game when they retire his number ;)

Ooops, forgot to ask,
TG, what is your take on that article.
sorry for posting twice *embarrassed*
Posted by: adrienne | November 16, 2008 at 06:54 PM
its Larry Brooks. To me, that's all you need to know about any validity attached to that online article about Elias....

Why is a Rangers beat writer putting something out there about a Devils player? If I had it in print, I wouldn't even line a bird cage with that trash.

I said this before but I am saying it again, I think they should get Havlat because he and Elias are best friends (I think) and imagine the chemistry they would have together and at the same time get a #1 center for them
Posted by: Robbie | November 16, 2008 at 08:37 PM
Robbie. How do you suppose we get Havlat?
Posted by: J-Remy | November 16, 2008 at 08:49 PM
Trade deadline or Free agency. Lou can have Patty give him a call
Posted by: Robbie | November 16, 2008 at 08:53 PM
The thing with Gionta is, he got his "big" season, the same year Gomez scored 33 goals. Neither of which had ever happened before, or since. That was a whacky year, where players/coaches were still getting used to the new rules, and small, fast forwards were having field days as checkers were getting neuterred by the overcompensating refs. Since then, a faster, smarter breed of defenseman and checking forwards, have found legal ways to neutralize those small fwds. On top of that, the refs have eazed up a tad on clutching and grabbing penalties. The era of the small, fast forward being a dominant force, has come and gone. It was a small window, and it appears closed. Today's bigtime scorers, either have insane talent, or a combo of size, speed, and grit. We need some more of those types.

Does anyone who is a season ticket holder know about the devils meet and greet tomorrow. I've been hearing about it but I never got any details or anything. I'm suprised this wasn't promoted more.
Posted by: Amerz | November 16, 2008 at 09:24 PM
okay, wow, I was totally wrong about this one.
Posted by: 2600 | November 16, 2008 at 09:29 PM
TG, could you ask about Tyler Eckford tomorrow? He didn't play last night for Lowell in their only game of the weekend, so I'm wondering if he's another casualty to the injury bug.

I'm a season ticket holder and haven't heard a thing about it, Maybe it's for the super secret special elite high spending ticket holders.

I know that there is a skating with the Devils/signing sessions tomorrow night
Posted by: Robbie | November 16, 2008 at 10:30 PM
Bad timing for Brook's article. Elias has as many goals as Ovechin and Malkin, and more than Crosby and Kovalchuk. Any luck and he would have double that amount, but he's been snakebitten and looking up at the rafters more times than I can count the last few years. Elias is having a fine season. But him with another player his caliber and he's still a 30/70 guy.

Isn't that every season ticket holder then?? LOL. I've heard this a couple times so I don't think it is rumor.
Posted by: Amerz | November 16, 2008 at 10:34 PM
It's the annual skate with the Devils and autograph session for Club seat holders at the Rock.
