Devils forward Mike Rupp's wife and children are used to the team being away for Thanksgiving, so they made plans to be out of town again this season. That leaves Rupp to fend for himself on the holiday.
Rupp decided to try to make the best of the situation by volunteering to work at a soup kitchen. He made a few phone calls, but was told all of the places were already well staffed.
"My family is out of town, so I wanted to make use of the time," he said. "I was kind of denied."
Rupp said he didn't want to "use the Devils' name", but hasn't given up.
"I've got a few more to try tomorrow," he said.

Center Bobby Holik (broken right pinky) skated for the second day in a row in New Jersey. John Madden (bruised left ankle), Brian Rolston (high right ankle sprain) and Andy Greene (broken right hand) also skated.
There's still no word on whether Madden, who will miss his third consecutive game tonight, will play Saturday in Pittsburgh.

Poor Rupper, even the soup kitchens won't fit him in. I'm sure one of the Guys on the Team will hook him up. Patty should, didn't he (Rupp) bring him (Patty) dinner when he was sick at one time?

Rupp is such a great guy.

Rupp (and family) are very religious. Which is kind of odd considering some of the pain he inflicts on the ice, between his fights and his hits. But he is a really good person, so it doesnt surprise me he would try to volunteer on his own (ie not using it as a Devils PR move).
