The Devils will host Hockey 'N Heels Charity Night Saturday while they are hosting the Los Angeles Kings at Prudential Center. The fund-raising event will help support the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women campaign.
The event will feature four elements:
1. A first intermission fashing show on the main concourse that will feature dresses from New York-based designer Niki Livas. All dresses will be available during a silent auction during the second intermission and can be reviewed for bidding in the evening's speical program insert before the show as well as through the informal modeling by AHA heart disease survivors on the main concourse until the end of the second period.
2. An autographed mystery puck sale will take place where the identity of the player who signed the puck will not be revealed until after it is purchased.
3. There will be a giveaway of women-related goods and services.
4. A portion of the proceeds from tickets purchased for the game through the American Heart Association will go to the AHA.

Ill be there. Sec. 212. Looks to be a big crowd going, no?

Sean Avery isn't going to be there is he?
Posted by: Pat D'Amico | February 05, 2009 at 04:37 PM
I'll be there. We'll be buying probably 5 pucks, if we can get them. I heard they're not selling that many pucks and I'd bet they sell out. I'm hoping for some big names, and hoping I don't get a pandolfo.. I already have one with his autograph :)

The pucks were distributed evenly among the current roster, so no Brookbanks...sorry Ditti.
What they need is a calendar of the guys shirtless. I'd buy it.

I'll be there, my dad and I will get a puck too :)
Jules, I agree!! :D

Yes, I've been told there will be an equal number of pucks for each player. And, as Jules said, no Brookbanks.

Awesome. Who wants to trade for my Leach puck?

Somewhat off-topic, what exactly is the Valentine's Day promo next week?
Posted by: NJD26 | February 05, 2009 at 06:25 PM
TG, Way off topic question but I need to know. Could you possibly sit somewhere in the Rock and not want to see them win?
As a professional I understand you may not root for the team, but considering you have an insiders veiw and know these guys personally, do you really not care if the team wins?
For example, Rob Neyer from ESPN says he cant sit down and watch, beer in hand, and enjoy a baseball game. Can you do it for hockey?
Posted by: Jacko | February 05, 2009 at 06:43 PM
TG, any idea what time they'll start selling the pucks? Looks like they only have 500 and those'll be gone in a matter of minutes I'm sure.

Services ehh... probably not the one I had in mind.

I was just watching the Epic Endings show from MSG (had it on my DVR), seeing that 2000 Stanley Cup Championship series piece...I am so extremely pummed for this run to the cup.
In a 7 game series, I feel we can take any team in our conference. INCLUDING Boston, esp. with our team now including marty hoping he comes back sharp as ever.
Coming up next weekend we face the Sharks so we'll see how we fare against them. The Red Wings game earlier in the season wasn't a good show, but with half the team hurt, it wasn't horrible.

Jacko- he's answered this before. At least twice. He's not a "fan" per say, but he often gives his opinion on the team. After all, that's his job.
NJD26- I was wondering the same thing. Already got my tickets though.

Hah, speaking of Avery, our good friend Mr Books of the Post is saying that Sather and Les Jackson of Dallas are talking together about lending Avery to Hartford for conditioning and then putting him on re-entry waivers so the Rangers can claim him at 1/2 his salary for the next 3.5 seasons.
Good luck to that Rangers locker room if that comes true, especially after the comments made when he left such as by Dubinsky. Shanahan seemed to have been Avery's only supporter in that room and he's obviously not there anymore. Hopefully Mr Holik will clobber Avery when he tried to go near Marty...

Sal, that's not what I asked entirely. Some professionals can't even watch a game without getting into analyst mode. I watch 30 games per season, beer in hand, doing little more than watching and enjoying the speed and grace of the game. I wonder, if say TG retired tomorrow, he would be able to sit and enjoy instead of picking the game apart.
Did anyone see that Zednick goal vs. the fishsticks last night? That was absolutely insane!

Shows what kind of class that garbage team has. Go ahead bring back Avery, I'm sure all their problems will be solved then.

I think I've been to two hockey games where I was not working since I started working at The Record. I think I would probably need a break for a while before going to a game as a fan. I still enjoy watching games on TV. I like to watch certain players, not necessarily teams.
As for the Avery deal, part of it makes sense and part does not.
If they don't want to pay his full salary, having a team claim him through re-entry waivers makes some sense. That would get them off the hook for half of his salary, but that half will also count against their cap. Or they could buy him out at the end of the season at 2/3 the total and take a cap hit of 1/3 his salary for the next six seasons.
If they're strictly thinking about the cap, though, they should just put him through waivers and send him down somewhere and never call him back up.
That takes his entire salary off their cap, but they would also have to pay him the full salary.

Do we have any idea yet where the puck table is going to be?
Posted by: BF | February 06, 2009 at 11:07 AM
Lou should sign him off waivers, and make him play out the next 3 years in Trenton.
All kidding aside though, I am actually happy about this for 3 reasons.
1) He did not deserve being run out of the entire league, and losing his income. That punishment does NOT fit the pittance of a "crime" he committed.
2) The Rangers currently have nobody that makes this rivalry exciting anymore. Clarkson shut-up Voros and Rupp shut-up Orr. This will at least stir the pot.
3) It's been made clear that a lot of the players don't want him back in that locker room. So what better way to assure that their team self destructs, than to add him.

How is this affecting his livlihood Jason. Do you think he's not going to get paid over the life of this contract?
Posted by: Jacko | February 06, 2009 at 11:47 AM
He has the right to make money like the rest of us. Not allowing him to play affects how he makes a living. And to do it over a NOTHING offense, is a disgrace. If they wanted to suspend him for something, he gave them plenty of big things to do it for. But for stupid words? Jokes.
Posted by: Jason | February 06, 2009 at 12:31 PM
I wouldn't call it a "nothing" offense.
What a pity. The league is better off without Avery. As for making a living, he could always go back to Vogue...assuming they'd want him.
