At this point, it doesn't appear the Devils intend to send Martin Brodeur down to Lowell for a rehab game before he comes back to play in the NHL, but wouldn't it be interesting if they did for Lowell's Feb. 20 home game against the Hartford Wolfpack?
The Dallas Stars assigned Avery to Hartford (with the Rangers' permission) today. It's unclear how long Avery will stay there before the Stars put him back through re-entry waivers. It would be kind of funny if Avery and Brodeur were to face each other in the AHL, though. I would imagine that the Devils -- if they ever decided to have Brodeur play in an AHL tune-up game -- would be sure to avoid having him face Avery.
Just something funny to think about.
And, for what it's worth, Hartford's arena, XL Center -- Avery's new home -- is located on Asylum St.
I'll leave the comments on that to you guys.
touche TG, touche

if Marty were to get suspended for slashing Avery in the neck in an AHL game, would his suspension carry over to the NHL? If not, I say they play him in Lowell and let him take out some revenge...although I dont really see Marty as the vengeful type

I hope Long Name Leblond pounds that meat head.
Posted by: Ruppamania | February 10, 2009 at 02:58 PM
that is really funny hahaha especially since I'd be in Boston that weekend, I'd definitely have to go lol
Posted by: JT | February 10, 2009 at 03:00 PM
yeah Ruppmania maybe the Devils could load up Lowell with all the goons PL3 , Tommy Harrison etc haha

I was thinking that they probably should give him one game in the AHL. But with the way the team is playing defensively, it might be more hazardous for him to face 40 shots down there than 27 up here.

I just read this to Mama Cornholio, and she said, "That would be cool!"

hmmmmm verrrry interesting TG.

Long Name Leblond! I like that one!

Lou should have Avery whacked.

hey TG next time you get a chance to talk to brodeur can you ask him if he will go back to the old mask or stick with MB30?
Posted by: Bill | February 10, 2009 at 03:41 PM
Good call Jersey Mike. I forgot that Kevin Cormier is back on the ice now as well. You gotta call Harrison and Cormier up to Lowell when they play Hartford with Sloppy Seconds in the lineup.
I think ima take advantage of those $1 hot dog nights in Trenton. Cormier and Harrison in the same lineup?? OHHH BABY!!!

Who would have though that there would be the slightest chance in hell in the beginning of the season that Marty and Avery would face each other in the AHL. LOL.
I asked my buddy this too.
It would be funny to go back in time 10 years and talk to Devils fans.
We won a couple more cups! Holik, Roltson and Shanahan are all there! Scott and ken are gone though. This guy named Clemmensen is our number 1 goalie, and I think were getting Brodeur as the trade deadline.
LOL

Sorry for the spelling errors. Beer.

Ruppamania: I already reported yesterday that Marty said that he's sticking with the new mask and that he no longer has the old mask.
Posted by: TG | February 10, 2009 at 03:57 PM
Sorry Ruppamania. I realized that it's Bill who asked that question about Brodeur's mask.
By the way, can we let that one go? He's wearing the mask with the new logo. The other one is gone. Accept it and move on.

Great. Dads yelling at the dinner table now.
"Just keep eating kids. Daddy yells because he loves us"
;)

No apparently not TG, some people are still wearing their lucky underwear from 1988 and their lucky socks from high school so they somehow think Marty's new mask had something to do with his injury. Excuse me while I walk under a couple of ladders, smash my bathroom mirror and kill a spider.
Posted by: JJ | February 10, 2009 at 04:09 PM
Get over the mask thing people! Marty’s bicep tendon tear began long before he started using the new mask. It just needed something to trigger the complete tear. It was going to happen at some point in his career. Can’t we all be grateful the injury occurred in early November and not in February?
Posted by: Erik | February 10, 2009 at 04:22 PM
The new mask is all part of the Marty web site/marketing/self promotion campaign. He has to stick with the new mask at this point. Brodeur didn't tear his bicep because of a new mask design. He tore his bicep because Avery called him fatty and then Brodeur worked out too hard in the offseason. THAT is why you need to have Leblond, Harrison and Cormier all in the lineup against Hartford. I would even send The Ruppster down for one game!

hahaha asylum street - now that's ironic.

TG question about Clemmenson. He's the only goalie in the NHL who wears pads with as much black on them right ?
Posted by: Jersey Mike | February 10, 2009 at 04:42 PM
I haven't looked at all the goalies' pads, but I think it's safe to say black pads are uncommon.

Ohhh baby. . . The Rags are a sinking ship. They have $40 million committed already in 2009-10 to 9 players. Then there are 5 unrestricted free agents and 10 restricted free agents to sign. RFAs like Dubinsky and Zherdev will be ripe for the picking by teams with cap room to give offer sheets. Now Sather is going to bring Avery back. Let's hope he is the iceberg that sinks the SS Rags to the bottom of the Eastern Conference. It will be time to hit the links soon Slats!!! FOURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

HAHA ASYLUM ST! I for one am highly grateful the injury happened when it did.
