I asked Devils center Travis Zajac this morning if he really is a blood relative of Hall of Fame goaltender Terry Sawchuk.
According to Sawchuk's Wikipedia bio, Zajac, who was born 15 years after Sawchuk's death, is his cousin.
Zajac said he never heard anything about being related to Sawchuk until someone asked him about the Wikipedia entry a couple of days ago.
"No one in my family ever told me that I was related to him." he said. "I think it would have come up. The only thing I know is there's a Terry Sawchuk Arena in Winnipeg. I played there when I was young."
Zajac noted that anyone can add information to the Wikipedia entries and that it was probably just something someone added to see if people would believe it. (There was good episode of 30 Rock earlier this season that made fun of that).
He said he would ask his father, who is coming to New Jersey for tonight's game, just to be sure, though.
F*c**R!! My glasses broke. I have to stretch it out an hour and then somehow drive 20 minutes home with a -6.25 prescription and no glasses/contacts.
Everyone wish me luck. I'm gonna try to leave a little early so I can miss the traffic..
-sorry bout the complaining, I'm just really screwed

I know this is totally off topic but does anyone know of any NJ Devils bars in the city? I know there's a bunch of "Red Sox" bars so maybe there's a chance that there's a bar somewhere in Manhattan filled with beautiful people "Rocking their Red." If such a place exists I would love to go there.

Don't you think this would have come up ONCE in his life already if it was true? I think when parents see their son become a professional NHL player, it might remind them of that fact, and prompt them to share it with him.

Jason: That's pretty much what Zajac said.

Stop the persecution. Shanny is an innocent man! I'm here to clear his name.
The culprit's IP address traces back to a Canadian ISP. The info on Zajac was inserted by someone in Winnipeg.
I hereby submit...

Let the jury note that on the day the edit was made, February 18, 2008, Mr. Shanahan was with the Devils in Florida.
The defense rests.

Travis Zajac's goals are worth 1.5 points.
Once, Travis Zajac accidentally collided with one of the zambonis. It's a good thing the arena had a spare.
