The Devils' seven-game loss to the Carolina Hurricanes produced the team's highest television rating for a first-round series in 12 years.
MSG Plus averaged a 1.36 rating (101,100 households) for the seven games. Game 7 drew a 1.64 rating, tying with Game 3 of the series, for the Devils' highest rating since Game 5 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series with Toronto on May 5, 2001 (1.74 rating).
Yay! So, tons of people got their hearts broken last night. Woo Hoo! Thanks TEAM!

1.6? Thats pretty good for an MSG Plus telecast. Too bad all those people were heartbroken
Posted by: chessarmy | April 29, 2009 at 06:41 PM
Maybe thats one reason the team doesnt have a huge fanbase. All these people finally tune in to watch a few games, and this is what they get...
Posted by: .B.C. | April 29, 2009 at 06:43 PM
That's 1.6 million hearts broken at the same time, not including the fans that were in the building.
Posted by: Jack | April 29, 2009 at 06:44 PM
I was in that building and feel sorry for all the broken fans. I was in the last row of Section 211 and threw my towel against the wall after the Jokinen goal. I still have bad feeling in my stomach. I am hoping for a Devils-Canes brawl sometime next season.

TG - Thanks for all the great work this season... Also, nice spot on HNIC Radio this afternoon... Full value as always...

That was a hell of game they all witnessed. It is a start to getting hockey more fans and having its coverage grow. Albeit I won't be able to get over that game until next year's playoffs start. :(
Posted by: CGA | April 29, 2009 at 07:06 PM
I'm still sick over this. I don't think I can bring myself to watch any more of the playoffs, its a painful reminder. Worst game in any sport I've ever attended. Walk to parking lot was even longer than game 5 last year getting dumped on by all those Ranger fans. I'm done have a good summer.

The team was definitely more entertaining this year than last. Last year they never showed up for the first period and it was as bad as nails on a chalkboard. This year with a better team they gained more fans. It would of been nice to have seen them win last night (I was at the game), but you can't control that and you can't change it unfortunately. Hopefully we will make some good off season moves which include another goal scorer and a top tier defensemen because that is what we really need.

i was at the game last night... words don't do justice as to how bad that ending hurt. stunning heart breaking loss. my initial gut reaction was to lash out at broduer for the game winner..after almost 24 hrs to dwell on it i gotta lay more of the blame to the whole team ,if blame is the right word. carolina NEVER stopped coming in the last 6 games. they were the hunter and the devs couild never reverse the roles.i'm just curious..were the canes that good in keeping in the puck in the zone or were the devs that awful in getting it out of there zone?it became sooooo difficult to get clearings that it was almost unbearable to watch. so many heartbreaking moments in this series...how can one team have that much tough puck luck ?

I'm still stunned and heartbroken, I'm glad People were watching, this was a great series, one of the best I've seen in years. My fav is still the Devs vs Dallas in 00, that was like war on skates. TG, when you see the Boys and if you get a chance, let them know we will be still be there cheering for them next season. At least we still have Jack Bauer to look forward to.

Well, this is good news at least (all be it far less of value then last nights game ending in a better fashion). Hopefully, it is a sign of what will be a continuing to grow fan base. And also, maybe MSG will keep the Devils off the alternate non-HD channel more next year!
Its a reach, I know, but at least its in a positive direction.

TG I disagree with Shari. Tell the team they choked. Please tell Lou to get a #1 defenseman unless I'm going 100% Rangers next year. Also for the all the people that say "screw you go root for the Rangers" just remember that I go to many games and I contribute to the franchise and the attendance and alot of the people here don't.

ALF, I could care less if you agree with me or not, and you have no idea what People have contributed to this Team over 25+years, I do agree with some that your posts are quite funny, but I could take them or leave them, if you want to go 100% Rangers then have at it and good riddance.

Thank you Shari

Hey local fan, the ultimate choke job is a team that blows a 3-1 series lead and you know who Im talking about. Please dont contribute anything to the franchise, they will be ok without a troll like you.
Posted by: bringtheAlineback | April 29, 2009 at 07:57 PM
ALF, if you are even considering going to the Rangers, you aren't a worthy Devils fan anyway.

I was there last night....I still can't shake it off. I've been a fan since the early eighties and never had a problem shaking off a bad loss. I just can't get over this one. Don't understand it. It's only a game. I feel like I lost a family member....well, maybe a cat.

I want a do-over!!!!

Not sure where you get off saying a lot of people here don't contribute when you have no idea. I live in Texas, spent half a grand on merchandise alone not to mention bought Gamecenter to watch the Devils (which may not affect them directly but unlike most who get it locally I have to watch a stream online) every night, and oh yeah my back shoulder now has a $300 Devils tattoo as of a few months ago. I don't get to spend money on tickets solely because of my location alone, and in years past would have to sit at my computer to listen to an online radio stream just to know what happens in the games and then watch the highlights later on nhl.com. I'd rather see a fan like you walk and jump on the Rangers bandwagon like most of their fair-weather fans before I ever associate with someone who believes that buying game tickets makes you a good fan.

I agree, I haven't been able to shake off this depression either. Being there last night, down to the last 2 minutes everyoen was so excited, we were all ready to jump up in celebration, instead we got a 1-2 punch that left us all in disbelief. It was like getting mugged. I think that's what made it so excruciating and so different from any other loss, our emotions went from elation to horror in the span of about 40 seconds, there was no time to mentally adjust.
Posted by: Scratch28 | April 29, 2009 at 08:16 PM
Jack, I completely agree, since the early 80's Lord knows we have seen our share of losses, except for the Cat part, I'm a Dog person.
Posted by: Shari | April 29, 2009 at 08:16 PM
So B.C. you only tune in if the team is winning? SO if they lose people should not watch them. The only PROBLEM I see is that YOU call yourself a "fan."
As for the Local fan cat, yes we need a number 1 D man and number 2. Call it a "choke" call it what you wish. The real fans could careless and LOCAL FAN..YOU ARE NOT A REAL DEVS FAN.

Seriously, I'm shocked you know SO MUCH about posters here.

Philly Devil, I don't think that's what BC meant...he's been on here all season and laughing and crying with all the rest of us from afar.
