As you might have guessed, there has been no news about the Devils the last few days, but since some of you have requested a new post to comment on, I decided to put one up.
I've tried to reach Niclas Havelid's agent, Mark Stowe, the last two days to get him to confirm the reports out of Sweden that Havelid has decided to play in his home country next season and has no intention of returning to the NHL. I'm still waiting for him to call me back.
I just spoke to Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said he had not spoken with Havelid about that subject, but added, "I would not be surprised."
Havelid is slated to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
There is still nothing on Devils coach Brent Sutter's future. Although Sutter hasn't said so officially, all indications are that he will be back next season.
I guess there will be continue to be some speculation, however, until Sutter actually says it
You know what they say: No news is good news.
Whether or not that applies in our situation? TBD.

I think we can offcially call Cornholio missing or a runaway? He's hasn't been for way more than 48 hours LOL.

Thanks, TG.
You should take a long, relazing summer break in the Bahamas. You deserve it. Im sure everyone would pitch in a bit.

J-Remy...TG just had a vacation. What you talking about, Willis..haha.
Posted by: Zorin | May 06, 2009 at 06:17 PM
Everything will likely be quiet until the Draft for the Devils, the only news outside the playoffs is the Coyotes financial mess, so lets hop everything works out in that situation. Oh yea TG, you do need a relaxing vacation, not a relazing, sorry to correct you J-Remy. Hopefully it will help you recover from the disappointing end of the season because July 1st is less than 2 months away.

TG, Thank you for the new post! Hey, I was thinking maybe you should go over to sweeden and keep us updated on the Devils playing over there, LOL.

TG you've just made my day! Things are starting to look up.

Brent wouldn't quit like that. It's all for the better, there will be changes, we're gonna get the next generation goalie, a bit of that `sport-anger` and prevail next year.

he lives!

And "I wouldn't be surprised" sums up Niclas Havelid's short, brutal career as a New Jersey Devil.
At least Richard Smehlik fluked himself onto a Cup winning team.

thanks for the new topic TG :) hope you're enjoying the relative P&Q!
re:Sutter, tsn had a story on Daryl and the moves he may make during the off-season:
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=277520
it was a puff-piece/nothing earth-shattering in it but the article did say "Coach Mike Keenan still has a year left on his contract and Sutter said it's a reasonable expectation that his coach will be back for another season behind the bench."
I know some folks are worried about Brent going to Calgary...

there's also an article on "The Moose" Gustavsson who was mentioned on the previous thread - it's mainly about which teams are interested in him:
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=277752
and, finally, the Lester Pearson award nominees are the same as the Hart :
OVECHKIN, MALKIN, DATSYUK.

Yeah, my bad on the spelling mistake.
You seem to know a lot about TG's private life, Zorin...
Maybe TG has a stalker.

"I Googled some cities" says The Moose...I hope he didn't google Newark, then we are out of the loop.

J-Remy...
I was being sarcastic about the vacation b/c we hadn't heard from him in a few days. Besides, you were the one that wanted to lay out in the sun with him in the Bahamas. LOL

I want to see the Caps win it all. I just like watching OV and want to see him win a cup before Crosby.

i'm all for ducks or blackhawks.... nik, i would also love to see ovie hold the cup before crosby...in fact, i hope crosby never gets his name on it.

Looks like the Devs at the World Championships in Switzerland are doing pretty good. Elias and Oduya are set to square off in the next round. There is a recap here...

In case you missed it, here is video of Elias scoring his first of the tournament, followed by Slovakia's Tomas Surovy chopping his own goalie in the head!

I won't miss Havelid. Seemed like a good pickup at the time, but he was awful in the playoffs.
Posted by: DY | May 06, 2009 at 08:54 PM
Well, since there's not much new to report, is there anything of interest on some stories we touched on earlier in the season? Like -- how's Pat Burns doing? How's John Hennessy's recovery been going? Are the Nets any closer to moving to Newark?
Just trying to find topics for discussion that don't revolve around the most recent on-ice activities...
