Former Devil Joe Nieuwendyk, a three-time Stanley Cup-winner as a player, will be introduced as the new general manager of the Dallas Stars in a press conference Monday afternoon.
Stars owner Tom Hicks announced the management change earlier today.
Nieuwendyk, 44, served as a special assistant to the general manager in Toronto this past season. As a player, he won the Cup with Calgary in 1989, Dallas in 1999 and the Devils in 2003.
Nieuwendyk will replace co-GMs Les Jackson and Brett Hull, who have both been reassigned within the organization. Hull will now serve as the team's Executive Vice President and Alternate Governor and Jackson will return to his previous job as Director of Scouting and Player Development.
Good for Joe always a class guy on and off the ice. I wish him all the best!

I love Joe as a human being, a hockey player and an ex-Devil but how in the world can this be a good move for the Stars? So he was special assistant to the GM for another organization and you give him the most important job in the front office??? Hicks is a boob.

Would he be any worse than Brett Hull? I think a fresh new approach is exactly what the Stars need.

Sean Avery is the reason Brett Hull didn't keep this job in some capacity.

Yup, give him a shot. If he stinks, put his crap in a box and tell him to giddy up and face that Texas Heat.
GL Joe!
