Devils forward Brendan Shanahan will make a guest appearance on the NHL Hour with Commissioner Gary Betmman today on Sirius XM Radio.

The NHL Hour broadcasts live on Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on NHL Home Ice (XM Channel 204 and Sirius Channel 208) and on NHL.com.
Shanahan, 40, is also scheduled to guest on Ice Breakers with former Devil Ken Daneyko and former Ranger Ron Duguay later today. That show will be taped from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the NHL Store in Manhattan and be broadcast at 7 p.m. on Sirius Channel 122 and XM Channel 143.

Not sure if this was brought up on the last post (too many comments to go through), but Patrice Cormier, one of our 2008 draft picks, is ranked #1 on a prospects hot list by The Hockey News. Nice to see that maybe we do have a decent prospect or two.

Cormier was someone I took notice to simply because he fills a real need for the Devils; a large, physical center projected to be on a top two line. He was injured during his draft year so he slipped and fell to us. Both he and Henrique are having good tournaments. What do you all think about this year?
I've had my eye on Ryan Ellis but it seems like his stock has climbed too much as well. He's a small, playmaking defenseman a la Rafalski and is great on the PP. Even if he wasn't a sexy pick right now the Devils would have had to move up a little to get him.
Either way, unless they can get a pure goal scorer who can skate, I'm sort of like the idea of stockpiling defensemen.

Like I can't wait for the next season to start because I love coming home from a tough day at school knowing the Devils are waiting for me at 7:00, but the double edge sword there is that i have school. Which is why the playoffs are so awesome because school is close to being over and the day just seems greater. It's such a nightmare having the Devils eliminated. The hurricains making it to the confrence finals is proof that Devils weren't just some pushovers who couldnt make it past round 1. It was a great series.

will he be anywhere near as effective if he plays the whole year...I have my doubts...I'm sure we'd see a lot of maintenance days with him...I'm not sure I want him back

Eastern Conference Finals Game 2 or Memorial Cup Tiebreaker game? Hmmmm... gotta go Memorial Cup to start at least. Devils prospect center vs. Devils prospect center.

I am gunna miss the show because im not near my sirius radio. is there a recording i can access it at? or will it be repeated later tonight? I'd really love to see him in a horns n tail jersey...
Let him play every home game for the first half of the season, so we can get some stuff done, and he can be w/ his family and not get rusty as well. im not worried about the first part of the season since we mostly use rookie fill-ins to see where they are at. Or maybe use a rookie to fill in his slot the first part of the season and send him down like they did Clemmer.

You can hear the show again by going to NHL.com and finding the link to download the podcast. I believe they keep it up there for a few days.

I think it's still to early to tell whether Cormier has the offensive skill to play on a second line. He was used in a defensive role at World Juniors and did a very good job. He might be better suited to play on the third line, but I guess time will tell.
Posted by: TG | May 21, 2009 at 07:55 PM
True, true. But it's always projection this early. Either way it seems like a good value pick. The Devils always seem to pick small centers and then put them on the wing. At least Cormier looks like he'll stay at center. Zajac was considered by some to be Madden's replacement when he was drafted. But he has offensive chemistry with Zach and Jamie and plays on the first line. Yet his two-way ability allows them to press without getting scored on at the other end.
And, of course, sometimes these guys just can't do it at the higher level or they burn out.

Q: what happens with all those hats that trew on the ice after a hat trick? Do they throw them away?
Malkin just had one vs Carolina.
Posted by: MoscowDude | May 21, 2009 at 10:11 PM
moscowdude... Yes they throw them away in the garbage. Too dirty to keep. Imagine all those sweaty dirty hats? I hear ar Rag games they have to call HazMat (j/k)But I did hear them mention it after Kane's hat trick.
PS... Thanks TG

Thanx 4 answer.
Posted by: MoscowDude | May 21, 2009 at 10:36 PM
I don't think Zajac is a true No. 1 center. He's probably closer to a second-line center, but his chemistry with Parise is so good that he plays on the top line.
I never heard any projections that Zajac was Madden's replacement, though.
Pretty much from the day the Devils drafted him, the word was he'd be asecond-line center if he met expectations.

Don't the Flyers keep all trick hats and store them in the concorse? I thought that was a neat fan appreciation idea.
Posted by: Pat | May 21, 2009 at 11:06 PM
In philly, nothing would surprise me... With all their major goal scorers, the whole collection is in a desk draw
Posted by: RickyM2 | May 21, 2009 at 11:16 PM
TG from what the hockey news says it sounds as rod Pelley is going to be Madden's replacement and take the role as a 3rd line " Defensive Center "
and Zajac seems to be the stereotypical 2nd line 2way center, this team still lacks a real 1st line playmaker, and you are right, zajac puts up a lot of those numbers and plays on the 1st line because of his linemate zach parise

I just saw something funny. I visited MB30 shop and saw a tshirt that says "have you ever held the glove of the devil?"
Maybe his summer collection will say "have you ever tried to stop a puck?"
No disrespect to Marty, I just thought it was funny
