Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said this morning that he expects to finalize the signing of defenseman Johnny Oduya "later today."
That means Oduya will not hit the unrestricted free agent market when it opens for business at noon tomorrow. Oduya is expected to receive between $3 million and $3.5 million per season.
I will post the official numbers when they are released.
Don't expect anyting on Travis Zajac re-signing today, though. The CBA includes a window that prohibits resricted free agents from signing between midnight Monday night and noon Wednesday. They are allowed to negotiate during that time, but can't sign until after noon on Wednesday
so can GMs start making offers and signing FAs by 12 midnight tonight?

Great news! I think Oduya will only get better this season. Still wondering about Gio I am hoping Lou finds a way to keep him.

Between $3 million and $3.5 million is great for Oduya. I'm glad Lou learned from what happened with Rafalski and didn't let that happen again. One piece down, several to go.

Regarding Zajac, is this to assume that he and Greene were qualified? I'm assuming they were since Lou told you over the weekend that he would.

No, I believe the window to sign FA is at 12 PM.

Any progression on a coach, tg? do you still expect something before tomorrow ?

@ Modnarm
No you cant sign free agents untill noon tomorrow. What TG was saying (i think) is that RFAs cant be signed from 12midnight till FA opens tomorrow at 12 noon.

I am surprised to hear Lou confirm something like this without it being official. TG- Do you find that to be slightly unusual?

Its gonna be lemaire.
I don't know if I like conklin, but he definitely has some promise - when he first came up he was en fuego, but that's I think a combo of adrenaline and not having a 'book' yet. Once he was scouted a bit it seemed like he was easily beatable.

why does everyone keep asking, TG has stated NUMEROUS times that Zajac and Greene were both tendered qualifying offers.
i am not buying anything newjerseydevilsnews.wordpress.com is posting... i will live with simple confirmation here

What Xander said is correct. RFAs can't be signed from midnight Monday (last night) until noon Wednesday (tomorrow), but they can negotiate during that time.

TG, how did Chicago get to resign Dave Bolland, which was announced yesterday - did they file the paperwork before Monday morning? I had never heard of the rule that RFA's can be resigned in the last 2 days before Free Agency starts
