I finally received the numbers on the contract goaltender Yann Danis signed with the Devils last week. It's a one-year deal for $500,000, which is the league-minimum for 2009-10.
Some other tidbits from today.
**Defenseman Matt Corrente, the team's 2006 first-round pick, has not participated in either of the two sessions this morning at the Devils' rookie camp at Prudential Center. Corrente also sat out Wednesday morning's scrimmage with what he called, "a little shoulder strain." He suspected he was injured during a fight with Ashton Bernard during Tuesday's drills.
(To right: Kevin Cormier is about to take a shot on goaltender Charles Long while Matt Delahey defends during the second session this morning)
Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said that Corrente will take part in the power-skating drills this afternoon. He was unsure if Corrente would participate in Friday morning's scrimmage, though.
"We'll see how he is tomorrow," Lamoriello said. "He wanted to skate this morning."
**New Devils assistant coach Mario Tremblay is at Prudential Center today for the first time in the camp to watch the team's young players. Head coach Jacques Lemaire is in Vancouver for meetings for the Canadian Olymipic team (he's an assistant coach for that team) and will not be here this week.
Lamoriello said Tremblay is in town to check out the area and look for a place to live during the season.
**There will be no scrimmage today. This afternoon the rookies will work again with the power-skating instructors. They are scheduled to scrimmage again Friday and Saturday mornings.
**Right wing Barry Tallackson signed with St. Louis as an unrectricted free agent earlier this month (one year, $550,000). Tallackson underwent surgery last September to correct an irregular heartbeat. He was a second-round pick (53rd overall) in 2002.
Tallackson had 11 goals and 10 assists in 56 games with Lowell last season. He had no points in four games with the Devils in 2008-09 and one goal and one assist in 20 career NHL games.
**Lamoriello said goaltender Charles Long, who has another year left at Colgate University, is not a candidate to sign with the team at this time. Anthony Felice, who is 35, obviously is not a candidate either.
Anyone buying a brick?

I coul see Corrente needing season ending surgery because of a poor choiced fight.

League-minimum for a serviceable backup like Danis is a good deal for the Devils. Especially with Frazee waiting in the wings.

The bricks are a little more expensive than i was hoping but i plan to get one even if i have to get someone to share it with me.

Bricks are a bit pricey

TG that's a 2-way contract Danis signed?
Posted by: JJ | July 16, 2009 at 12:05 PM
Those bricks are pretty sweet. I might have to get one

B.C. then you'd have to take a trip out here to look at your brick
Posted by: Scratch | July 16, 2009 at 12:12 PM
TG should get a brick...the Fire and Ice brick...

I wonder what the deal is with Travis Zajac.

When Did Tallackson sign the contract? How come it wasnt reported if it was earlier this month? I dont mean by you, i mean in general. Thanks TG.

I am finding the way everything having to do with the Devils this off season is dragging on and on very exasperating...from BS taking weeks to quit, to taking 5 weeks to replace him, to signings...even the pre-season schedule we have to wait for! Geeze!
Posted by: Scratch | July 16, 2009 at 12:49 PM
Brendan, that's a little over the top. If he had hurt it enough to need surgery he would have been off the ice as soon as the fight was over and it wouldn't be a "mild strain."

- it wasnt reported but i just found out Jon DiSalvatore, lowells leading scorer in 08-09 has been signed by by the minnasota wild for 550,000.. i noticed capgeep.com usually discovers signings b4 it goes public on other sights. maybe ben walters will replace jon as he was an offensive threat for bridgeport sound tigers last year.

Don't forget that in Lou's world, a compound fracture of the leg would be described as "lower-body soreness."

Yeah im pretty sure this season and/or next season im comin to NJ.

TG-Have the Devils released what they will do Friday yet? I know originally their camp notes had it posted as TBA and you had speculated that a coach would be named at that time.
Posted by: Tom | July 16, 2009 at 01:04 PM
what kind of coach would they name? for one of the minor league teams? i dont understand what your talking about
Posted by: murph | July 16, 2009 at 01:15 PM
Murph-For the development camp they had provided TG a schedule for Monday through Thursday leaving Friday as TBA. When he originally received this info TG speculated that a new coach could be named at that time. Obviously that already happened so I was curious if they had finalized their camp plans for tomorrow.
Posted by: Tom | July 16, 2009 at 01:19 PM
Murph, before Lemaire was named, TG had thought perhaps the announcement would be made this Friday
Posted by: Scratch | July 16, 2009 at 01:21 PM
Looks like from what TG said it'll be another scrimmage tomorrow. If Corrente's participating in drills today and looking at playing tomorrow, he's fine.

TG-
In your opinion, do you think the Devils will make some sort of move, i.e. adding players outside the organization, before the season starts?
Posted by: Ben | July 16, 2009 at 01:31 PM
TG-
any news on zajac and or shanny?
or any news on when well possibly have news?? haha

I'm starting to get really tired of Corrente and his constant injuries. This guy might be tough, but boy is he injury prone or what?`!
Posted by: Devilswede | July 16, 2009 at 01:40 PM
just like the old saying, Matt Corrente is the NEW Adrian Foster, lol
