The Devils will open their preseason schedule on Wednesday, Sept. 16 against the Rangers at 7 p.m. at Prudential Center. (I posted information on that game against the Rangers last week.)
That is the first of five games on the Devils' preseason schedule, which the team released this morning.
The Devils will play three of those exhibitions at Prudential Center. They also have home preseason games against Philadelphia on Saturday, Sept. 26 and the Islanders on Tuesday, Sept. 29. That Sept 29 game against the Islanders is their preseason finale.
The Devils open the regular season four days later against Philadelphia at Prudential Center.
Their two road exhibition games are on Wednesday, Sept. 23 against the Islanders at Nassau Coliseum and Thursday, Sept. 24 against the Flyers at Wachovia Center.
All of the preseason games begin at 7 p.m.
Full Preseason Schedule
Wed., Sept. 16: RANGERS, at Prudential Center, 7 p.m.
Wed., Sept. 23: Islanders, at NassauColiseum, 7 p.m.
Thurs, Sept. 24: Philadelphia, at WachoviaCenter, 7 p.m.

Hey TG, was there any word on whether the pre-season games will be televised? I think a couple of them were last year, right?

Thanks TG...what else is going on?? Give us something!

Hi-Does anyone know when single game tix typically go on sale?
Woohoo! Only 55 days until our first preseason game.
Posted by: Tom | July 21, 2009 at 11:08 AM
No word on television plans yet.
Posted by: TG | July 21, 2009 at 11:08 AM
TG,
is it true the Devils are playing the least amount of preseason games in the league? I think most are playing 6 - 9 from the schedules i looked over.
Does that seem odd?
Posted by: pando20rules | July 21, 2009 at 11:12 AM
@Tom: Last year they went on sale on Saturday, September 20th, 2008.
Posted by: frankied | July 21, 2009 at 11:12 AM
Tom, single game tix tend to go on sale about 2 weeks prior to the season opener. Partial ticket plans will be available in August.

@frankied
Thanks.

No preseason games in Lowell or Trenton. Sort of a bummer. doubt more than 7k show up for these games.
Posted by: JOE D | July 21, 2009 at 11:21 AM
The single-game tickets will probably go on sale earlier than Sept. 20 this year because the season starts about a week earlier. I don't have any official information on that so far, though.

The Devils have played fewer preseason games that other teams in the past also, so it's really no surprise.
For some reason, they weren't able to fit in a game at Madison Square Garden this year. The Rangers have road preseason games at Detroit, Boston and Washington, so they might have something to do with it.

So who do you guys think the random free agent signing this Friday will be? Two weeks ago we got Yann, last week Murphy, this week do we step it up and actually sign someone who will make 7 figures a year?

WFAN 660 is reporting scott stevens is the new assistant coach of the Devils (NJ not Lowell). Any validity to this? If so I assume he would knock abelein down to Lowell? Tom hear anything about this?
Posted by: Mhowitzer | July 21, 2009 at 11:40 AM
I think both are listed as assistants, but Stevens just won't be traveling with the team.
Posted by: Tom | July 21, 2009 at 11:42 AM
Stevens is not a full-time assistant with the New Jersey Devils. He'll be working with the players in New Jersey and in Lowell and probably will not be traveling with the NJ team
That's not news. That's what they announced the day that Jacques Lemaire was hired.

Joe D. Can't see the Devils doing preseaon in the minor league stadiums EVER! The stadium has very few events going on other than the hockey right now. Go look at the Rock events end see how often it is empty. Got to get more stuff going on to get that street level anchor in there! Not going to get the rest of the complex built with the economy in the dumps and no events.
All the non hockey events at the Graden might prohibit the game over there this season too.
TG since things are quiet how about you ask Jeff or Lou if the other elements of the complex are still in planning for the near future? Park and bridge from the station so don't have the cluster #@%* stampeed across route 21? Hotel?

Oh, and Albelin will be a full-time assistant with the Devils -- as he was the last two years. He'll be the only full-time link between last season's staff and the new one. Jacques Caron and Chris Terreri will be basically splitting the goaltending coaching duties in NJ and Lowell.

55 days huh?? Wow.. it cant come soon enough.
Posted by: dubnoxious | July 21, 2009 at 11:59 AM
TG-From a reporters point of view, having Lemaire/Tremblay should provide you some good post game quotes right? I know you said Sutter was very good with the press, but Lemaire's personality has to make your job a bit easier.
Posted by: Tom | July 21, 2009 at 12:04 PM
well we wont be able to hear any quotes from tremblay bc lou puts a gag order on assistant coaches....
Posted by: HF | July 21, 2009 at 12:08 PM
Will Albelin be handling the forwards the upcoming season? He was handling the d-men last season but now with Tremblay behind the bench he's going to take care of the d-men.
Posted by: Devilswede | July 21, 2009 at 12:10 PM
Unless the team changes its policy of not allowing the assistant coaches to talk to the press, I don't know what kind of interaction I will have with Tremblay other than to say "hi" and be friendly.
Jacques Lemaire does have a good personality and I'm sure that will come across better on camera than Brent Sutter did, but Brent was very good with the print media and, hopefully, Jacques will continue that.
Posted by: TG | July 21, 2009 at 12:11 PM
Jacques Lemaire said last week that Mario Tremblay will be handling the defensemen on the bench. Jacques will handle the forwards. I'm not sure what Albelin's role will be on game night's -- if he'll be behind the bench or what.
And John MacLean was the one changing the D last season, not Albelin. Brent Sutter changed the forward lines. Albelin spent much of the first three quarters of the season watching games from above for at least the first two periods. Sutter brought him down on the bench later in the season and for the playoffs.
Posted by: TG | July 21, 2009 at 12:15 PM
I guess I missed that then. I thought Albelin was handling the d-men. Don't know where I got that from though. Thanks for the answer TG!
