The Devils have re-signed defenseman Andy Greene to a two-year contract for $1.475 million.
He'll earn $725,000 in 2009-10 and $750,000 in 2010-11. The annual average and cap hit is $737,500.
After seeing the figures, I'm not sure of the purpose of not qualifying him for $660,000.
Greene, 26, was slated to become a restricted free agent today, but the Devils did not make him the necessary one-year, $660,000 qualifying offer before Monday's 5 p.m. deadline, making him an unrestricted free agent.
Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello had still expressed confidence in re-signing him, though.

Should have signed Zajac first.

What difference does it make? They have his rights so he's not going anywhere.

This is good. He's becoming a stronger skater and I like his patience. He could turn into a real asset in the next 2-3 yrs.

Is he the smallest D in NHL?

Not really the news I was hoping for when I heard "We've got a note from Tom Gulitti."
I guess this could be alright, can't hurt to have some depth.

Colton Orr: four years at $1 million per year?
That's a good sign for Mike Rupp.
Posted by: TG | July 01, 2009 at 01:25 PM
This guy was benched most of the season last year. Not a priority.

TG, anything going on with Lou and Zajac?
Posted by: Random | July 01, 2009 at 01:27 PM
Nothing on Zajac. Very tight-lipped in that camp.
Posted by: TG | July 01, 2009 at 01:29 PM
Goodie for us Andy Greene (rollseyes)
Posted by: JPL | July 01, 2009 at 01:30 PM
TG, you think Lou is going to try to re-sign the RFA's before he looks at some of the UFAs?
Posted by: Random | July 01, 2009 at 01:30 PM
THANK GOD we signed Andy. it would look horrible to let go of another young kid (SALMELA) with an upside. What does this matter the fools say? This takes away minutes from HORRIBLE d man like Mike Mottau.
This is the DEVILS..there will be no huge signings of overrated players like the fans are used to with the Mets and Yanks.
So many people LOVED the signing of Zubrus...bunch of fools.
