Devils center Travis Zajac's salary arbitration hearing is scheduled for Friday, July 24 in Toronto.
Both Zajac's agent, Kurt Overhardt, and Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said this week that they will continue negotiations in hope of reaching an agreement on a contract before the hearing.
Zajac, a restricted free agent, filed for arbitration before Sunday's 5 p.m. deadline. Because the player filed, it is the Devils' option to ask the arbitrator for a one or two-year award.
TG - Could the Devils offer more years or do they have to stay with either 1 or 2 year deal?

I think they can work out any contract they want, but if it goes to arbitration, it's only the specified duration.

Outside of the hearing, Ttey can do a deal for any length they want up until when the arbitrator hands down his decision. For the arbitration, they can only ask for a one or two-year deal.

any word if the team will ask for 1 or 2 years?

That's right TG,give everyone the stats.People please stop comparing Zubrus and Moore. You don't appreciate someone until he is gone.Sure I would feel more comfortable if Zubrus would have make 2.5 mil but this is business and you don't always get someone you want without overpaying him.Gionta had 60pts and nobody liked his salary now he makes 5mil for his 60 points.
You can say that we have 90pts player who only makes 3 and change but is going to change very soon.
So my point is stop crying and hallucinating, Zubrus is here to stay.He is not that bad like everyone is saying.I am out.GO DEVILS.

Here's my impression of Lou on the coaching situation
COACHES? WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN' COACHES

Anyone know what happened to Captain Cornholio? Haven't seen him on here since game 7.
Posted by: Robbie | July 10, 2009 at 07:16 PM
hey, I've read that Montreal wants to trade Tomas Plekanec. I guess they want more size down the middle. TP is a speedy 2-way center, who would seem to fit in nicely between Elias and Rolston. What are the chances that Lou is in on that ? Zubrus + prospect for Plekanec, then sign Malholtra to center the 3rd line?

Yea - also RJ Arditti. Where's that guy?
Posted by: Maxwell | July 10, 2009 at 07:27 PM
Corholio is in a hangar somewhere in TX, hibernating with the Devils plane...

Hahahahaahaha.

Isn't RJ PJ?

Stop trading Zubrus. You guys get obssessed with one stat: points. Get over the contract - start badmouthing it when he definitely hasn't performed more than halfway through. He's played 2 out of 6 years and I feel like you have no patience for him. 6 years, 20.4 million is not a bad deal for a guy who is 6'5" 225 with some skill. I think this 'ZuBust' talk is a waste of time.

TG
What do you think is the main reason for Zajac not having reached a deal yet?
Could it be that he doesn’t like the length of the contract offered, our is it the money offered that is the issue? Our perhaps just a mixture of both…
Also do you think there’s any chance that Lou, might actually be the one hanging around posting rumour comments. Such as the one about “Zubov” (in Nothing new with Shanahan) just to get people’s reactions and perhaps get a clue about what to do?

Brodeur just arrived back in NJ from Montreal
Posted by: captain cornholio | July 10, 2009 at 07:59 PM
Gus - no chance about the Lou thing. You think he cates what us idiots thinks?
Posted by: Maxwell | July 10, 2009 at 08:03 PM
ELIAS ZUBRUS ROLLIE -
Thats our second line, and they will put up 75 goals this year...we are all good
We need a reliable third center for Clarkson and Bergfors - so thats that walter/Tim Sestito, or a new centerman is going to fit..
Our forth line is already built to last - IIkka, pelley, Pl3, Pando, Shanny, Hallischuk,,Tim Sestito, and now
We are pretty deep in that respect - so lets get a solid 3rd line center/ and we will reach 45wins no problem
I really think that lou WILL TRADE AND/OR pick up a very cheap UFA ( maybe williams, lang, or afineganov,
Todd Bertuzzi and Tangauy are absolute stretches for us, but possible-

PJ - are you fka RJ?
Posted by: Maxwell | July 10, 2009 at 08:04 PM
if the devils can get Plekanec that is so huge. he is a great penalty killer as well better than madden in fact. habs would want a lot but i'd give up some of the guys in the minors for him because he is young yet.
Posted by: Bill | July 10, 2009 at 08:05 PM
dtk i hope elias and rolston get 30 each, zubrus wont get more than 15 even on that line.
Walter and Sestito are not NHL players, Walters might be but Sestito is a replacement for Pelley in Lowell

TG,
Do you think Lou is at all intrested in bringing back Petr Sykora? Him and Elias had some pretty good chemistry together back in the day.
Also, what about Phillpe Boucher? Isn't he a free agent? He's a pretty solid Defensemen.
Posted by: DiscordantLight | July 10, 2009 at 08:27 PM
Isn't Plekanec a RFA this year?
Posted by: Puckster | July 10, 2009 at 08:39 PM
The anti-Zubrus comments are starting to get pretty annoying. Yeah, he got paid a little more than I would like, but he put up 40 pts last year. His career high is only 57, so I don't know what you really expect from the guy. He brings size and strength up the middle. He's not going to give us 60-70 pts a year. He's just not.
Posted by: Puckster | July 10, 2009 at 08:41 PM
Xander Crews:
Right on about Morrison, dude. Tired of 'bring back the Devil' script. It's been read and done too much.
Puckster: I agree on the ZUBRUS stuff. Even if he put up 20 pts a season, he is signed here and not going anywhere with the money he gets per year. Like I have said b4..let us all hope this is the year he plays better and finally gels with a line.
