TG, do you get to play in and/or attend the annual alumni golf outing at UMCC?

Intern Rob

Tom, Is it know if this years training camp will be open to the public at any point?

murph

finally back to hockey..thank god

big bird

Thanks for the update! Any word on a San Jose deal?

Pat

I agree with an earlier posting, I think it wouldn't cost that much for PM since SJ is trying to make cap space. Whether these rumors are true is anyone's guess. I still say no action until later in camp when the cap deadline is looming.

OH YEAH

MARLEAU IS IN NJ WITH HIS WIFE BEING SHOWED AROUND BY THE DEVS.

OH YEAH

OR AT LEAST IS EXPECTED TO BE HERE SOMETIME THIS WEEK!

Stan Fischler's Beard (AKA Moe)

Oh Yeah, can we trust you? I mean, really trust you?

Rick C.

I echo Intern Rob, any word if any of training camp will be open to the public?

Jim B

OH YEAH, how do you know that Marleau is in NJ being shown around?

Steven

I am not believing squat about Marleau being in NJ unless I see a TSN article that the Devils have acquired Marleau, personally I think Lou is going to wait until mid-training camp at the earliest to make a deal if he feels the need to do so. If the Devils start out the season struggling, then I guess there will be a need for a deal, but I am not buying any Eklund crap.

Steven

I also think Lou is going in a different direction, but again unless a TSN article confirms any Marleau to NJ deal, then I will believe it. TSN and RDS and TG that is.

Jim B

The Devils should have the cap space to pull off a move like that and Lou has made his cliche " there is some trade talk going on statements like" " If there is a way to make the team better we will" through out the summer, so I wouldnt be suprised if something did happen...I dont ness. think that Marleau is going to be in NJ this week however. If marleau did come to this team I think that would be great, it would give us 2 top notch scoring lines and also take some pressure off of the young guys coming up

carpenter

I said it before, I'll say it again....Bergfors, Greene, and a 1st rounder for Marleau. Then we dump him at the end of the year and still have lots of cap room to re-sign Martin and sign Zach to a LONG TERM deal

Jim B

at 29 yrs old I think Marleau should be signed to a contract as well....the guy is a 30 goal 30 assist a yr type of center, he has more skill and assets then Gionta, I think it would set up a good core of dependable offensive players...Parise Zajac langenbrunner, elias marleau rolston....there arent too many teams who can match up with those two lines

Tull

Shanny's chosen to wear #14 this year, per chere:

http://www.nj.com/devils/index.ssf/2009/08/brendan_shanahan_will_wear_no.html

to quote Shanny:
"I called Gio and let him know I was going to wear No. 14. I told him I've requested a larger size and he had a good laugh about that."

:-) i had a good laugh too!

OH YEAH

according to Eklunds live talk show today the only thing that is holding up the Heatley trade to SJ is Marleau coming to NJ if he likes what he sees he is going to be a DEVIL!!! However personally I am keeping my fingers crossed I really don't take Eklund seriously because most of the rumors he talks about are busts. But this has been rumored by a bunch of different analysts for a while now and it makes sense, Lou has been talking about Marleau for a few years, Marleau has been stripped of the C and it looks like his time in SJ is limited at best. Also the Devs and SJ have been involved with deals in the recent past. I am not sure who we are going to be giving up but I really think that Paul Martin is going to be moved. He is a UFA next year and is going to want a Big Raise, with all the young D the Devs drafted this year and what we already have he may be expendable in the minds of Lou and Jeff. WE WILL KNOW SOON ENOUGH LOU ALWAYS SURPRISES!!!!!

TG

Before people get carried away with this (apparently too late for some), Sharks GM Doug Wilson told the Ottawa Sun yesterday that he has "never" asked Marleau to waive his no movement clause.

Tull

PLEASE stop mentioning Eklund's rumors - the dude is right like 2% of the time...

Jeff O.

Tull, I liked that as well.

And, I saw what Wilson said on ESPN.com. I'm not getting my hopes up for anything just yet.

TG

I should also note that Wilson said the same thing to the San Jose Mercury News last week about not asking Marleau to waive the no movement clause.

So, that's at least twice.

And, -- if Lou Lamoriello has been talking about Marleau for years -- please someone show me one of the quotes.

Don't read this as me saying the Devils will never trade for Marleau. I'm just saying those who say they know what's going on with the Devils, rarely do.

TG

And I have no information at this time about any part of training camp being open to the public.

If I had to guess, I'd say that most of it won't be, but maybe a scrimmage or something will be. Last year, they let the public in for free for an AHL preseason game against Philadelphia.

Flipper Rules

Marleau = this year's Souray.

Jeff O.

Oh God, Flipper. I remember that. All of the "he's on a plane headed for New Jersey" garbage.

Flipper Rules

It's horrible. Hurry up and start, new hockey season!
