Livin' for the weekend
Heading back to Long Island today. Had hoped to go on Friday night but the rain changed my mind. In any case, though, the "summer" traffic out to the island has begun, so I will have to figure out the best times to head out there.
There was a lot of traffic last Saturday -- about an hour to cross the GWB -- so I tried going through the city instead. Even without traffic into the Lincoln Tunnel, the city takes a long time to navigate when you are heading east/west rather than north/south.
Once the weather warms up, you're also dealing with construction projects all over the place. Sometimes, I wish I could just drive out at 2 a.m., but with so many people heading east on summer weekends, I don't know if it would make any difference. I'm going to have to try different times and see.
My big project this weekend will be painting my bedroom, so I may bring the futon and sleep in the living room tonight. I don't need any more fumes in my life.
Jasper still doesn't seem comfortable in the apartment. I'm not sure what else I can do to make her feel 'at home' there, but I'm working on it.
I'm still trying to figure out how to move some of the larger things I'd like to bring. I've heard there are movers that will take on small jobs like that, but I'm guessing it would still cost a fortune.
In the meantime, I am enjoying all of this, and looking forward to a nice summer.
And what are your plans for the weekend??
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LWT !!!!!
hope it's filled with love, sunshine and flowers!!!
(plans? : ( i have a sore throat-movie/dinner plans postponed. Nyquil cocktail tonight. hope to make my book club tomorrow night. wanted to get to see the Iris gardens in Montclair)

My son has a baseball game this afternoon; afterwards we're driving down the shore to spend the night with my mother-in-law; she's not well and we don't like for her to be alone all the time. Nobody can go during the week, so we decided to take turns visiting on the weekends. I'm sure we'll be sitting in plenty of traffic tomorrow evening on the way home...long as we're back in time for Desperate Housewives finale I'll be fine!!

Working, working. But we did go out Friday night in the rain to Hastings-On-Hudson, N.Y., to see a Canadian folksinger by the name of David Francey. It's likely that none of you are familiar with him, but if you are at all inclined to liking this sort of music, then you should do all you can to check him out. He's one of the very best out there, and it was one of the best nights out I have had in a very long time.

tom-if you are willing to drive all the way up to hastings to hear a folksinger, you might want to check out the hillside cafe in nutley sometime. the sing-along saturday was not the usual monthly offering; it was the annual church fundraiser. it usually features acoustic music from up and coming artists [pat wictor appeared several times before the world at large knew of him], although from time to time there are better known acts such as christine lavin or the kennedys. the music is always good. it is a small, intimate coffee house and the musicians love the set-up. www.hillside.cafe.com. admission is usually $10. my husband and i don't get over to it as often as we'd like [we went off the committee about two and a half years ago] but it is a great way to spend the third saturday evening of the month. and just because it's sponsored by the church does not mean the artists are censored. it is not by any means a religion-based venue, there are frequent double entrendes [i'm sure i spelled that wrong] although i can't ever recall anything really raunchy.

I don't mind driving any distance for good live music. This particular performer, David Francey, almost never performs in this area, so it was really worth the drive. I met a guy at the show who had driven down from Rochester just to see David. That's a testament to David's talent.
