It's chilly, bright and beautiful out there. Leaves all over the place. I know some of us have been down the last few days and some of us haven't, but howzabout we all have a GREAT weekend?
I'm seeing friends, going to at least one Halloween party, spending some time with my parents -- who simply cannot go up and down the stairs all day for trick-or-treaters -- and I will HOPEFULLY have a good time doing all of the above.
Do you have a favorite candy? I used to love Snickers, Three Musketeers, Reese's peanut butter cups and a bunch of other junk that I can't stand the sight of anymore. Also used to love red licorice, but the newer stuff tastes awful. Potato chips haven't tasted the same for years either.
I suppose this is all MY fault??? I don't think so. I'm not sure what happened to the chips, but everything else is drowning in corn syrup. I avoid chocolate and other sweets most of the time, since I'm lactose intolerant and most sugary stuff makes me sick. But, when I am in the mood...well...sometimes you want something so bad that it's almost worth the upset stomach. And there are plenty of delicious treats out there if you know where to look for them -- and don't mind spending a bit more.
Pumpkin pie is good, but I love a really good apple pie when I can get one. Is there anything better than a really good pie?
If you have young kids, I hope they enjoy themselves this weekend. Keeping up holiday traditions can be a drag as you get older, but kids love them and remember them forever.

A lady from work invited me to go horseback riding, since her husband got hurt and is unable to ride. I am really excited because I have not ridden since I lost my horse in 2007. I've really missed it.
The weather in Northern Arizona is supposed to be glorious for the weekend, so I will do some final winterizing of the pond and set up the deicer. Hubby and I will be going to Sedona on Sunday.
Have a great weekend everyone!

I agree about the pie. I would much rather have a home baked fruit pie for my birthday than a cake. You just can't get the candles to stick up very well.
Pumpkin, Peach, Lemon Meringue, Key Lime, Banana Cream & Pecan are all good but Apple is the best!

Peanut M&M's are far and away my favorite. Pumpkin, apple, cherry, blueberry pies, yum, yum. And nobody makes a better apple pie than my wife!

dark chocolate is my favorite and i make a nice apple pie. sometimes i put cranberries in it and sometimes i put cubes of cheddar but i prefer pie to any cake.
this weekend is disappointing. first my husband, then i have been experiencing 'flu-like symptoms.' we were supposed to have our granddaughter for the weekend so i emailed my son and told him i would not be up to get him and since his car is not running right now, that means he will not be seeing her. his soon-to-be-ex-wife called us because she didn't believe we were sick and just thought my son didn't want his daughter for the weekend. right. we got the flu just to inconvenience her. i'm feeling a little better today, but still have a sore throat and congestion. what kind of mother would willingly subject her child to that if it wasn't necessary?

Charleston Chews and Goldenberg's Peanut Chews. I used to give them out at Halloween until the year someone broke into our porch and stole the entire bucket of candy and the treat bags. Breaking in was not hard, as the door barely locks - but the irony was that it was a pair of kids wearing clear back packs, and as we turned the corner to our street, we saw them coming off the steps and waling away. They were getting into a van parked on the corner by the time I caught up with them. I was both very angry with the adult that was driving them, and with the idea that my own trust was broken. I had to leave my kids with a neighbor so they could finish circling the block, telling them that the other kids must come from somewhere no one has candy. The next year, a gang of big kids came to my door, and one of them told me to F...off when I teased them they were too old to be out trick or treating with no costume. Scary moment because there was a lot of them and only one of me. I no longer answer the door after dark or give candy to anyone not in a costume and shorter than me,

Try Pop Chips - they are much better than regular potato chips. They are air popped and not soaked in oil or baked. they are crunchier and so good. I've found them at the health food store and also my local shoprite.
For candy, I'd have to say lindt chocoalates, yummy.

Have you tried the new 3 Musketeer that's mint? Better than the original.
I used to have a thing for M & Ms too, so much so that Christmas time at work I would find 10-15 lbs on my desk before the day was over.
My Mom used to say that when you get older your tastes change. I'm beginning to think she was right on that one.
Lately I like things to have a little bite to them. Like EXTRA SHARP cheddar cheese.
