This appears to be quite a storm system we're experiencing -- the kind that would have paralyzed us in January. Has the rain ruined any weekend plans? And...how about the winter ahead? After it snowed in parts of New Jersey yesterday, a lot of people have been predicting a winter that will be lot worse than last year's. I don't recall too many major storms last year, just frigid weather that seemed to linger for six months...
monday we had a ripping storm, rain and wind; not cold, fortunately. today and this weekend, foggy, warm, muggy...what gives? we don't have muggy out here. did something happen to the planet?

The biggest excitement for me was looking outside from my desk this morning to see a huge turkey walking down the middle of the street. I got a very bad picture of him/it through the screen and window - let's just say it's not a usual sight for the neighborhood. I can only figure that I'm three blocks from the Passaic River as the turkey flies, so maybe he/it was looking for breakfast at the Empress Diner...

evelyn--wild turkeys are making a comeback in north jersey. i used to see them daily on rifle camp road on my way to work in west paterson. i also see them in nutley from time to time. poor nutley. two weeks ago the town-wide garage sale was rained out and tomorrow is the rain date. there is also supposed to be a craft fair in brookdale park. me? i'm staying in by the fireplace with a cat on my lap and a glass of wine in my hand.
and i do remember enough snow last winter to be very inconvenient.

I think after the year I've had, I wouldn't mind a snow storm big enough to keep me from leaving the house for a week or so.....as long as I had enough food and drinks in the house.
Trying to walk on ice and snow with these knees is tempting fate which is the only reason I don't care for winter. Remember I started this year in the hospital, I don't want to end it in one.....although they do make a good turkey sandwich.:)

alpha linda--just make sure you have enough food and other stuff stockpiled for at least two weeks. if, like me, you prefer milk in your coffee or tea, keep a gallon of vanilla ice cream in the freezer. works well in a pinch and won't spoil. also make sure you have candles, matches and a battery powered radio because a hard nor'easter often brings power failures.

My kids came home from school and told me that the turkey lives a couple of block from here, at Henderson Brook near Westmoreland School. Apparently someone puts out feed for their pet ducks and the turkey made himself quite at home. I guess he was just out for a morning stroll.
