Anything is possible Wednesday
Lest there be any confusion about who guest-blogger Claudio Reyna supports in tomorrow's UEFA Cup final, the Red Bulls midfielder and U.S. National Team veteran sets the record straight. He's pulling for Glasgow Rangers.
That's a no-brainer. That's kind of a weird twist, because I played at Rangers. I was coached by the Zenit St. Petersburg coach, and the final's at Manchester City Stadium. So it's kind of a weird connection to it all. I wish I could go, because I have tickets. And the Rangers fans are pretty upset because they only got (a few tickets). I have a feeling they're going to raid the stadium and get a lot more fans in.
It's going to be amazing. I think even the last two or three rounds, they've (Rangers) probably been the underdog, but they've been able to pull it off. In a one-off game, anything is possible.
But St. Petersburg is a very good team. I think it's one of these teams that many people don't know about, but they play great soccer. The coach who I had there (at Rangers), Dick Advocaat, was the best coach I ever had in my life. They'll be well prepared. He was amazing. I learned so much from him. He's a great guy. He was a great coach. It's kind of weird for him that he gets to the UEFA Cup final, and he has to play against Rangers where he coached for three and a half, four years.
It's going to be a great final, something to look foward to. That's one i'm definitely going to watch.
The UEFA Cup final, largely overshadowed by next week's looming Champions League final, will kick off at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday on Fox Soccer Channel and at 3 p.m. on ESPN Deportes.
Glasgow Rangers will face the scorching hot Zenit St. Petersburg. This looks like a game to Tivo if you're saving those sick days for next week.
