Question of the week

Carmine_galasso_photo___yanesWho is that man behind the curtain?

We'll spare you the suspense. He's Romulo Yanes, the longtime photographer for Gourmet magazine. He makes his home in Paterson, and we thought it was time to tell readers a little about him.

You'll see some of his favorite work in Sunday's Better Living section, but here's a preview, along with some recipes. The photos may look a little odd, with all of the empty space, but bear in mind that Yanes often photographs for entire page. The space is where the stories and recipes are overlaid (something I can't do here on the blog, unfortunately). As you can see from the photo, he doesn't go at it alone. Pictured from left are prop stylist Erin Swift, associate art director Flavia Schepmans, and test kitchen director Ruth Cousineau.

Here are a few of his images from the June edition, on newstands now.

I've been a fan of his work for so long and am so glad to have found this!

He makes me happy :)

Romulo Yanes is a great inspiration to me. I was so glad when I first started noticing his pictures in Gourmet -- finally someone who shot food in an organic way. Muted and not over saturated like food so often is.

Very good!

does he us large format camera? is that why he's behind the curtain?
