After 18 months, Sanzari's Oyster Bar in Tenafly has closed, and the building is for sale, a restaurant spokesperson said on Sunday. Calls to the restaurant are being redirected to Sanzari's New Bridge Inn.
The restaurant opened to good, but not startling reviews, with the kitchen under chef Jamie Milkman, formerly of the highly acclaimed Ninety Grand Grille. It received "Good" ratings from both The Record and The New York Times, and a re-review by The Record earlier this year yielded the same two-star result.
Milkman left the restaurant over the winter. His sous chef, Michael Galasso, was promoted to executive chef and brought more Italian dishes to the menu.
Sanzari's New Bridge Inn, the Sanzari family's first restaurant [three stars, September 2005] remains open. It's at 105 Old New Bridge Road, New Milford; 201-692-7700; sanzarisnewbridgeinn.com.
Just goes to show you because you have money and are a bit of a celebrity, to open a restaurant guarantees you no success unless you open an eatery that serves it's community. Over-blown reviews from pompous critics who like to hear themselves talk has nothing to do with over-priced mediocre food the dining public finds no value or quality in and no reason to frequent a second time.

Read your article, my opinion would be to add a piano bar when considering to open a restaurant. They go great in elegant surroundings....... JV

The building was knocked down to make for a bank after The Stoney Hill Inn pulled out.
