Chef Central will host its first of three Ultimate Chef cook-offs Saturday in its Paramus demo kitchen.
The battle, which begins at 11 a.m., will feature Joe Cerniglia of Campania Ristorante in Fair Lawn against Jesse Jones of Heart & Soul Catering, assisted by Tobiah Butler. Italy vs. the South.
The competitions are modeled after the Food Network's Iron Chef, with a secret ingredient and three judges: Susan Leigh Sherrill from (201) magazine, master chef Thomas Griffiths from the Culinary Institute of America, and me, who presumably will be playing the role of "Iron Chef America" judge Jeffrey Steingarten, which will allow me to justify my horrble habits of talking with my mouth full and licking my fingers.
Chefs will provide samples of some dishes for spectators. There is no charge to attend.
Chef Central is at 240 Route 17 north, Paramus; 201-576-0100 or chefcentral.com.
Jeffrey Steingarten is my favorite critic on that show! Good luck.
