Two more for gyros

GreekflagTwo new Greek places to pass along.

Well, one Greek place and one non-Greek place that has a few Greek things on the menu:

First, Greek Island Grill opened in Hackensack. It has a large, moderately priced traditional menu, starting with revithosalata (chickpea dip) and anding with bakaliaros and skordalla (fried cod with garlic dip). It's at 77 Main St., Hackensack; 201-489-4733.

Second, The Lantern Char-Broil Grill has opened in Wanaque, at the site of the former Falls View Texas Wieners. The menu is similar to Falls View, but with the addition of gyros and chicken souvlaki. Chicken parm and rib-eye are also on the menu. The Lantern also served breakfast. It's at 1138 Ringwood Ave., Wanaque; 973-616-8801.

We had lunch at Greek Island Grill this weekend and loved it. First, the inside of the restaurant is absolutely beautiful (you should visit just for the room) and the food was great. Wonderful Greek style fries with lemon and oregano that's imported from Greece. The pork was fantastic and the gyro beef almost as good. We look forward to return visits (especially since they said lamb would soon be on the menu) and hope this restaurant is a success.

I went to this fantastic Greek restaurant called TWO GREEKS AND A GYRO over the weekend. They had the traditional fair but everything was really made from scratch , very fresh and delicious. They have their own childs menu and alot of vegan specialties as well as their very own signature salads. The mousaka, spinach pie, gyro delicious. If your ever in Nyack NY definetly worth checking out. 166 Main Street. 1-866-845- 727-GYRO(4976)

I've eaten at this restaurant twice and both times found the food to be pretty good for fast Greek food. I went back a third time and was treated quite rudely by the woman behind the counter. She acted like the "Soup Nazi" from Seinfeld. I asked for a gyro platter with rice. She said, "Sorry we are out of rice. There are no substitutions." This platter is served either with rice or fries. I told her that I didn't eat fries. She once again said, "No substitutions." When my husband and I decided that we were leaving she told my husband that she might have given a substitution if I hadn't been so rude. My husband can testify that I wasn't rude, I just was not going to take the platter with fries. The women behind the counter then starting ranting about how she believes in God. My husband and I were taken aback. We were just trying to order food. She ordered us out of the store and told us never to come back. I promised her that I would never come back, but that I would let everyone know about my experience in her store. By the way, at the end of May 2008, this establishment was given a red violation by the Rockland County Department of Health. There is another Greek takeout in Stony Point. The owners there treat their customers properly. I will be eating there."

GREEK ISLAND GRILL in Hackensack, NJ_ I must say this little restaurant has to be the best in bergen county. Fresh food warm service, incredible desserts! I feel as if Iam eating my grandmothers cooking! and the owners! well they are warm and sweet and tend to the customers personally. They also told me they do all the cooking themselves. The restaurant is warm and inviting. I had the best mousaka here. dont let this out but it was even better than my grandmothers. I hear its new, I wish them success!
