Freshly picked tacos??
After being introduced to Asian pears by food-ambassador-to-the-stars Elisa Ung, I began scrolling through Wikipedia's list of culinary fruits to see how many other fruits I was unfamiliar with.
Being a "bad North American," as Mrs. Ung called me, there were several native fruits I couldn't identify (i.e. the false-mastic, pawpaw and thimbleberry)... Still, there was one I knew quite well.
According to the Wikipedia's list of Fruits of North American Origin, the Taco (or taconium delicium) is a native fruit to North America.
No dual-meaning here -- a click on the hyper-link reveals a fascinating entry on everyone's favorite "rolled, folded, pliable maize tortilla filled with an edible substance."
Wait 'til the FDA gets a whiff of this... move over ketchup.
