Another change for Bistro En

Bistroamericain First, Bistro En in Teaneck tweaked its concept, adding American dishes to its French-Japanese fusion menu. Now, it's changed the name.

The restaurant is now Bistro Americain, according to a news release received yesterday (but dated Nov. 25). Here are the details, from the restaurant:

NOVEMBER 25, 2008 (TEANECK, NJ) - Bistro Americain, formerly Bistro En is rolling out a new American menu in keeping with current economic times but also observing the fine traditions of Bistro En which has been serving French-Japanese fusion since 2005.

We have rolled out a "new vision" of home-cooked, high-quality American food. We have crafted each dish to reflect the best in American cuisine prepared by our own Chef Yamashita. Our menu may seem on its face to look like the menu one would find at a local diner but the only thing that will remind you of diner food are the prices. We have found the best combination of boneless short rib mixed with sirloin tips, ground freshly everyday into half pound burger patties and served with homemade fries, a small side salad and homemade coleslaw at the quality Bistro En has maintained, for only $9.00.

We were inspired by Thomas Keller's (Per Se, The French Laundry) Fried Chicken and came up with our own modified version of his recipe and will serve you 4 pieces of Buttermilk Southern Fried Chicken, with mashed potatoes for only $14. Mario Batali's home cooked Chicken Parmesan inspired us to make our version served with side of pasta over meat sauce and fresh parmesan cheese for only $14. We liked Matthew Porco's Mac and Cheese with Pancetta recipe which uses fresh mascarpone cheese and grilled Panko (Japanese bread crumbs) and offer it up as an appetizer for $8. We kept some of our Bistro En favorites including our Hanger Steak, Rib Eye, Salmon Steak, and Kobe Beef Burger. We also added a fabulous Asian Salad, and Cobb Salad, and still offer our Soft Shell Crab Salad. On the weekends, Chef Yamashita will continue to offer some of his French bistro favorites on the special board.

To finish things off our Pastry Chef, Yumiko Kobayashi, prepared a N.Y.-style Cheesecake, a Chocolate Cake, and Apple Pie-a-la-mode. She also has an awesome selection of homemade ice creams.

We still have a great selection of wines, beers, cocktails, and now, soon to be famous Ice Tea (it's got vanilla bean in it and it's a treat-but unsweetened).

Because we want to make our restaurant more of a family venue, we have added a Kid's Menu. For $6.99, the kids can enjoy a home-cooked meal, nothing frozen or microwaved, just the same fresh burgers, hot dogs, fresh chicken tenders, or mac and cheese for the kids, with a choice of drink, and a scoop of ice cream. We hope that families will come try us out for the best kid's meal in Bergen County.
