Esty Street in Park Ridge will close after dinner on Jan. 17 for renovations to its dining room, owner Kim Costagliola said today. The restaurant will reopen on Friday, Feb. 6.
Esty's new motto will be "suburban chic" and the dining room will be overhauled to create a "warm, comfortable atmosphere," Costagliola said. The wainscot paneling will stay, but the room will be brightened and updated with a lime green and brown color scheme, brown suede upholstered chairs, green paisley wallpaper, and brown velvet draperies. Around the bar will be green glass mosaic tile and an eye-level fireplace.
He says he will be answering the phone and taking reservations during the renovation. And here's what it will look like:
It's in sepia because the project's designers - Saddle River-based La Bossiere Associates - didn't think color would be represented accurately, Costagliola said.
Here is more information from an e-mail Costagliola sent us today:
"To preserve the warmth and coziness of the restaurant we will keep the existing wainscot paneling. The wall above the paneling will be upholstered. Foam padding will be added behind the upholstery which should help reduce the noise level in the dining room. Our color scheme will be warm browns and rich lime greens. We have selected a classic patterned carpet which will anchor the paneled walls while giving a breath of color and softness. Oversized luxuriously upholstered banquettes will be used in key locations adding the the cozy feel of the restaurant. We will use high-back dining chairs upholstered in brown suede which will help privatize each dining table."
"The existing track lighting, ceiling fans and smoke eaters will be replaced with recessed pin spots. Chandeliers and wall sconces will hang throughout the dinning room. Full length brown velvet draperies will hang in each window. Black and white antique etching will be placed on selected walls. Shaded table top lamps will be placed on each dining table. The corner walls separating the restrooms and service bar will be replace with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves."
"A ribbon fireplace will replace the wine racks behind the bar. Back light glass and mirror shelving and build in cabinetry will complete our back bar. Our bar will be surfaced in green glass mosaic tiles. Generous leather upholstered bar stools will complete the look of the bar."
"And on top of all of this our restrooms will get a completed make over. Coin shaped stone tiles will be used on the floors and will be featured in the corners of the vanity walls. We will install wall to wall white corrian vanities with inset wooden sinks. Wall to wall back light mirror will be placed between the coin tiled corners."
