North Jersey's second Sonic has opened on Route 46 east in Totowa. Unlike the recently opened Sonic in Hasbrouck Heights, this one has room to breathe.
If cars are backed up to the driveway, that means a 30-minute wait. Flagmen point the way and, occasionally, get in the way.
It looked to have fallen through earlier this year, but a Crumbs Bake Shop is indeed coming to 123 Ridgewood Ave. in Ridgewood, confirms Emily Garibaldi, a spokeswoman for the company. It is slated to open the last week of September. (There's now a Crumbs sign in the window and the location is back up on the company web site.)
Royal Hot Dogs in Bergenfield will host a hot dog eating competition at 1 p.m. July 11. The entry fee is $15 for the chance to eat as many hot dogs as you can. The winner will receive at least $150; more if there are more than 30 entrants.

Pourquoi Pas?, a French bistro in Westwood, has begun to serve lunch Tuesday to Friday, with a menuthat includes cold-poached salmon over greens, croque monsieur and mussels with pommes frites. The restaurant is also serving a $35 prix-fixe dinner menu Wednesday and Thursday.

Nisi Estiatorio will host a dinner featuring wines from the Greek islands at 7:30 p.m. Monday. The price is $65 and reservations are required.

Rosa Mexicano will host a sweet and savory ice cream demonstration and luncheon at 10 a.m. July 11. The price is $35, including tax and tip, but adults who bring a child are free.

Sara Moulton of PBS will be the celebrity ambassador at the Culinary Stars fund-raiser for the New Jersey metro chapter of the MS Society, which will begin at 6 p.m. July 9 aboard the Atlantica luxury yacht.
The fund-raiser will include a three-hour cruise around New York City and dishes from chefs at North Jersey restaurants.
