A Mano adds new crusts

A Mano in Ridgewood has added gluten-free and whole-wheat crusts to its menu. Gluten-free crusts will be available for an additional $5 a pie only on Sundays, starting Aug. 9 (you may have seen them in testing earlier). They are prepared in a specially sanitized area, and were "perfected with the help of Antonio Esposito, Sorrento-based master pizza chef, who recently visited A Mano," according to the press release.

Whole wheat crusts will also be available for an additional $3 a pie every day starting Aug. 6.

Mondial Pastry closed

Mondial Pastry on Main Street in Paterson is closed and the space is available. The Syrian bakery was one of the businesses mentioned in NJ Monthly's roundup of ethnic restaurants in the city.

Gregory T's opens in Emerson

Gregory T's, an American bar and grill has opened in Emerson in the former home of Arthur's Tavern. The owners are Greg Kyritsis, who formerly owned G's in Warwick, N.Y., and Theocharis Philippou, neither of which have returned phone messages left over the last few months.

Turkish restaurant opens

Istanbul Restaurant has opened in Mahwah, in the former home of Limani Blue. The restaurant has a full traditional Turkish menu, including kebabs, and features an open kitchen.

Boardwalk Deli & Pizza closed

Boardwalk Deli & Pizza on Broadway in Fair Lawn has closed.

Never been, but I once saw a sign there for "authentic boardwalk cuisine," and wondered if it really offered fudge, fried clam rolls and hand-cut fries in Fair Lawn.

Mulberry's Bar & Grill opens

Mulberry's Bar & Grill, which seemed to be "coming soon" in Elmwood Park forever, has opened. It has a nicely edited menu (seven appetizers, four salads, eight sandwiches and variations on a half-pound burger), a dozen beers by the bottle, an open floorplan and live music many nights.

Salsa's Cafe reopened

Salsa's Cafe, the Spanish cafe in Garfield that closed last year and went on the market, has reopened, with a similar (maybe even identical) menu served from a steam table, with entrees rotating based on the day. The cafe also serves breakfast.

Serrano's closes

Serrano's, the casual fresh Mexican restaurant in Rutherford from the owners of Daruma, has closed, according to a Daruma employee.

I'm practically in tears writing this, because Serrano's had some of my favorite fish tacos and lime tortilla chips of all time (owner Ken Oh is a fellow native Southern Californian). The restaurant opened in 2007 after Oh realized that the Mexican food his Daruma cooks were making for themselves was better than any other Mexican available in the area.
