Kean got $10K from Craig
This is just an "in case you wondered" kind of post.
Paul Kane at the Washington Post, who cut his teeth in Washington covering Bob Torricelli for The Record, reported on his blog last night that Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman plans to give away the $2,500 he got from Idaho Sen. Larry Craig's political action committee, Alliance for the West.
The disclosure this week of Craig's arrest in June for soliciting an undercover police officer in an airport men's room has led Coleman and Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., to call for Craig's resignation. The Republican leadership also took away his subcommittee chairmanships yesterday.
Kane's post naturally made Capital Games curious about anyone in New Jersey who got money from Craig, and the FEC discloses that Tom Kean Jr. got $10,000 of the $140,000 Craig parceled out to Republican senators and candidates last year.
What to do with this information is anyone's guess. Kean's latest campaign finance report shows he has $47,000 in cash remaining from his Senate race, and $130,000 in debts. The debt is owed to himself, however.
