Menendez Vegas-bound
Sen. Bob Menendez will lead a delegation of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus in Las Vegas this weekend to urge Latino voters to support Hillary Clinton in the Jan. 19 Nevada caucuses.
Menendez, a national co-chairman of Clinton's campaign, also recorded a television commercial in Spanish that will begin airing in Nevada this weekend.
"It looks good in Nevada. She's had a great organization there," he said. "She's got some major state figures in her camp there. And it's a truly Democratic caucus because you don't have all this independent movement going."
Nevada's population is about 24 percent Hispanic. Menendez said his schedule includes labor events and visits to workplaces. Plans call for a full day of campaigning Saturday and half a day on Sunday.
"We need to strengthen her hand there and do everything we can to get her a win there," Menendez said. "And I've had discussions with the campaign beyond that for Super Tuesday [Feb. 5, when New Jersey's primary will be held]. There's a very large Latino population around the country and they need to be thinking about that and focusing on it."
Barack Obama's campaign in Nevada received a boost today when he was endorsed by the 60,000-member Culinary Workers Union, which represents hotel, restaurant and laundry workers.
