Sonic fast-food restaurant now in NJ

Restaurant_buzz_2 So a franchise of Sonic, the popular mid-Western and Southern fast-food drive-in chain, has opened in Ocean County. It's the first in the New Jersey, with more to come.

If you're not familiar with Sonic, well, you've definitely seen the commercials (for some reason they air all the time on New York City stations, even though there's no Sonics in New York state either) - the ones with the man and woman sitting in the front seat of a van, giving a sort-of funny commentary on the delicacies of the restaurant's shakes and burgers. And if you've driven down to the Carolinas or further South, you've probably passed one.

I'm curious: do we need any more fast-food chains in NJ? Paterson alone is home to Checkers, KFC, McDonald's, BK, Wendy's and Taco Bell. What's so great about Sonic? Tell me your thoughts here or drop me a line at stevens@northjersey.com.

NO desire to go there. Fast food? Don't eat it. What's the point?

Sonic is more than food. They have a variety of iced drinks that are amazing =P

you should def. put a sonics in north jersey preferred GARFIELD! i have been dying to go to your restuarant and i want to try one of everything! so if you wnat to make money.. bring it right here!! so pleaseeeeee make my dream come true and bring it to northern new jersey close to garfield!!!! i want to break the world record yay!

There's something different about Sonic. I went there only once (somewhere in Tennessee, I think).
My girlfriend and I had been driving through the night on our way to Bonnaroo and, by the time the sun came up, we needed a pick me up. The GIGANTIC fruity, smoothie iced drink (I don't remember what it was called) totally did the trick. It was icy cold and loaded with enough sugar to send a weaker pancreas into diabetic shock.
Not only that, the drinks (in addition to the tasty tater tots) were brought to us by a car hop. A car hop!!!
To this day, I wonder if I was supposed to tip the poor girl and feel kind of bad for not doing so. I was just so taken aback by the notion of a car hop in 2005!

Fast food is not only dangerous but it's also an evil empire targetting the most innocent minds - our children's. Say no to fast food!

put one in LODI, NJ there`s plenty of space now that they want to construct on main street next to shoprite =]

I am tired of Mcdonalds,Burger King. The only fastfood place's i eat at is wendy's and Arby's because their food taste's fresh and good.I want something new and better, so when is SONIC's coming my way, that's LONGBRANCH NJ the jersey shore WE NEED SOMETHING DIFFERENT and GOOD.SONIC's is the place' they have breakfast, lunch and dinner. plus there big selection of icey drink's. How do i open a SONIC food chain, please tell me. P.S. HURRY UP.

Hi Grady,

Thanks for the info, I know a lot of people out there agree with you.
I think if you visit the Sonic web site (www.sonicdrivein.com), there's info of how to open a franchise. Let me know if you have any luck!

OH SHUT THE HELL UP TO THE PEOPLE WHO HATE FASTFOOD , FASTFOOD DOESN'T MAKE YOU FAT ! YOU MAKE YOURSELF FAT ! Am so glad South NJ finally has one take that NY !

I think it will be great to have a Sonic Restaurant in Paterson, NJ. The commercial shows great food and shakes/smoothies. I want to have a taste of it. I'm tired of Wendy's, McDonalds and Burger King. Paterson needs something new, because the other restaurant is getting kind of old (if you know what I mean).

Hey,
I already contacted Sonic by phone and said if you are going to show these commercial's in our area. PLEASE! PUT ONE HERE! Woodbridge/Edison area of NJ

I live 3 block in off RT 1 and there are Too many Mc'Ds in one area! Silly! And again like another posted SO tired of Mc'Ds and also a few to many, Burger King and Wendys and Taco Bells are too far to bring home as it is cold! There was a Wendy and prayed they would put something good in there, but put in some Polo chicken place that I wouldn't even walk in to!
This is a perfect area to put one, RT 1 runs from NJ all the way to FL There also is a Garden State Parkway exit right around the corner you have 131 and 131B
Also right off RT 287.
This area is a serious joining of major highways and highly populated area.
So they would get drive thru travelers and local's. I am looking in to opening a franch. but the cost on this one is too high for me.
I also live off the light between 2 MALLS that are frequented daily by people from Staten Island to save on taxes on clothes and holiday gifts. They also just opened some betting track place across the highway that is bringing in NY'ers
Who ever could open a traditional one on RT 1
Or a non traditional, in one of the 2 malls I live between.
(Woodbride Center and Menlo Park Mall) with make a fortune in this area! For real! This is a hot spot right now under constuction for a 3 lane highway and will be done in 2009
PERFECT SPOT FOR ANYONE LOOKING TO OPEN ONE?
HOPE TO SEE ONE SOON! THE COMMERCIALS ARE MAKING ME HUNGRY AND NEAREST ONE IS IN SOUTH JERSEY..TO FAR!
THANKS AND GOOD LUCK TO THE LUCKY ONE WHO READ THIS AND HAS THE MONEY TO MAKE IT HAPPEN. I WILL BE FIRST IN LINE TO ORDER ONCE ONE IS OPENED.

THANKS,
RAE

my only worry with a sonic is the loitering factor. food is fine.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Sonic! I moved to NJ from NM and miss my tater tots, jr. bacon cheese-burgers w/ green chilie, and the fact that you can add any flavor to your favorite fountain drink... plus the car hops. EVERYTHING on the menu is good. I know. :) I don't eat fast food here cause the choices are lame.

coming from The Land o' Sonic (OK) i am a little biased but i think everywhere would benefit from a Sonic :) they are good, hot and fast. onion rings are excellent!

I lived in vegas for 2 yrs and in the 2yrs i need to have my sonic atleast twice a week...Now i live here in northeast nj and there is none..Im craving 4 my tasty smoothies....WE DEFINITELY NEED ONE HERE ASAP....PLEEEEEEAAAAASSSSSSSEEEE..OOH N A JACK IN THE BOX....

they are making a sonic in totowa nj on rout 46 across from toys r us..
