More Important than the Subway Series
While the Mets are fighting for their baseball lives at Yankee Stadium, it's not too late to think about heading out to Shea Stadium for a much more important fight today. The Mets will host the fourth annual Relay for Life today, starting at 3 p.m. The details follow below the fold - but it's a good cause and gets you tickets to a Mets game.
METS HOST 4TH ANNUAL RELAY FOR LIFE AT SHEA THIS SATURDAY
FLUSHING, N.Y., May 15, 2008 – The New York Mets today announced that the 4th Annual Relay For Life benefiting the American Cancer Society of Queens will take place this Saturday, May 17 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Shea Stadium.
Relay for Life is a celebration of life where teams of friends, family, and co-workers come together in honor and in memory of those whose lives have been touched by cancer, and raise funds for the fight against cancer.
Participants will camp out in the picnic area of Shea and enjoy music, food, entertainment and activities and will take turns with their team walking around the warning track. All participants will receive two tickets to the Mets Cancer Awareness Night on Wednesday, June 11.
Last year, Mets fans raised over $100,000 for the cause. Since its inception in 1985, Relay For Life has raised more than $1.5 billion with over 4,900 events scheduled to take place across the country this year.
One-in-three people will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime. The money raised at Relay saves lives by funding cutting-edge cancer research, early detection and prevention education, advocacy efforts, and life-affirming patient services.
