Safety in Numbers - as in Numbers of Wins
With a win under their belt, Omar Minaya gathered Willie Randolph and the Mets coaches and brought them to dinner out here in Denver Saturday night - no need to remove the sharp untensils from the table before Randolph sat down with him.
The win seemed to do what apologies could not, settle the mood and stabilize the franchise for a day. Before Sunday's game began, Minaya indicated that the trouble had passed for now.
"I think it's over," Minaya said. "Once Willie apologized it was over."
Still, that doesn't explain why Minaya had to jet out two days after the apology was issued for the words that Randolph said in last Monday's Record. And it doesn't account for the fact that Randolph still has to meet with the Wilpon's when he gets back to New York.
But Minaya said he didn't think there needed to be any declarations of job security from ownership.
"I don't think so," Minaya said. "We move forward, try to focus on getting the team better, winning games, doing those kind of things."
Randolph was in a good mood, too, this morning, the desperation that seemed to drifting into the manager's office before the five-game losing streak was erased fading. Asked if Minaya had brought the machete with him today - referring to Randolph's joke from a day before - Randolph joked again, "As long as it' s not a rifle. I can rebound from a wound. A rifle, I don't think so."
This team is gutless heartless sack of crap. Jose Reyes has become a mini version of Carlos Delgado. Careless attitude horrendous defense and no hustle. Delgado has poisoned the entire clubhouse. Glad Steamboat Willie pinch hit Church for Evans. I mean God forbid the kid get a chance. Why not pinch hit for Schneider instead? Oh wait he's a veteran I'm sorry. I can't take too much more of Endy Chavez. Yeah wonderous catch two years ago he has had what one good game since then? Beltran has freaking stunk too, but unlike Delgado he plays good defense. Captain cliche David Wright shouldn't be taken off the grittle. Neither should the injcompetant Gm. Who built an old aging soft team that once they go down by a run or two they stay down. Sickening.
This team is alot like the '92 team with Delgado playing the part of Bobby Bo and Steamboat Willie playing the part of Jeff Torborg. Have I meantioned Castillo has very quickly become one of my least favorite Mets of all time. 3 years left on that retarded contract good job Omar.
Delgado is the biggest butcher to ever hit a Baseball diamond and he gives zero effort. If they buy him out it will cure alot of the ills of the team.

In '06 Reyes had Floyd and Valentin as role Models and they kept him humble and he followed their example. These days he's following that cancer named Delgado. I was fine with Willie benching Reyes for not hustling, but once he didn't do the same to Delgado he lost Reyes and the respect of the room imo.
steve was the piece of thrash Delgado still in the room? If so when are you guys gonna ask him about his putrid defense, hustle and his loser attitude? Was that yappy little loser Reyes around?
they've stink for over a year now. What other move can be made? The team is unmotivated and lazy. They play hustle free sloppy baseball. That is not on Steamboat Willie? His I am not worried we'll get pay back routine didn't work last year.It won't work this year. I have no issue with dumping Omar as well. Beinfest or Ryan would make a fine choice as gm.
