Mets Add Krivsky
The Mets made a front office move official Saturday, but no, it's not Omar Minaya departing or Tony Bernazard taking over. The team named Wayne Krivsky, recently bounced by the Reds where he was GM for two-plus seasons, as a Special Assistant to Minaya.
The two worked together in Texas and he will be responsible for major league scouting. The press release follows below:
METS NAME WAYNE
KRIVSKY SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO GM
FLUSHING, N.Y., June
21, 2008 – The New
York Mets today named Wayne Krivsky, Special Assistant to General Manager Omar
Minaya. Krivsky’s main responsibility will be major league scouting.
Krivsky is in his 32nd year in a Major League
front office. He was mostly recently the General Manager for the Cincinnati
Reds from the start of the 2006 season through April 23, 2008.
Before joining the Reds, he spent eight years as the
Assistant GM for the Minnesota Twins. The Twins won three straight AL Central
titles from 2002-2004. Wayne originally joined Minnesota in 1994 as a special
assistant.
Wayne began his baseball career in the Texas Rangers ticket
office in 1977. He joined the baseball operations department two years later as
an assistant director of player development and scouting. In 1980, the Rangers
promoted him to Assistant GM, a position he held until joining the Twins in
1994.
Krivsky will turn 54 on July 28th. He graduated
from New Canaan (CT) High School in 1972 and later earned a management science
degree while playing three years on the baseball team at Duke University.
Great - just what the Mets need, another cook in the kitchen.
