About Jose
I've had a few days off, getting a break while Jeff Roberts ably fills in by handling the series in St. Louis. So between running errands, mowing my lawn, I've been able to watch the Mets like a fan - watching the games on SNY and listening in my car to the constant talk from fans.
And the talk back here has been about Jose Reyes.
So I thought I'd break off my breather to just post a quick correction that the radio talkers I guess don't actually ask their reporters about. For days, Reyes has been crushed on the radio for being unfocused and having his head up his - well, not where it should be - when he was picked off second base with David Wright at the plate against the Yankees.
The point to remember is, besides Andy Pettitte having one of the best pick-off moves in the game, that Reyes wasn't just in a cloud out there. He was breaking for third - with the steal on. The move was a double steal with Reyes bringing Damion Easley up behind him into scoring position.
You can debate the wisdom of that play anyway - whether staying put and just getting the tying run in on a single might be a better move with two outs. But it was a play that the manager was board with. If you see a replay, you'll see Reyes isn't frozen - his steps are already starting towards third.
The point of all this is not just to defend Jose Reyes - he's had plenty of moments this season worth criticizing. But it seems like he's become a target of fans - and maybe talk radio. I would take a good look at him before you think about shipping him out of town.
And one other thing. He might be the happiest guy I've ever encountered in a baseball clubhouse. So I wouldn't worry so much about him getting upset with an error or at having to come out of a game. David Wright throws his bat and his helmet sometimes. That's not a bad thing.
Reyes and Wright will end up being equal to the best players on their club that the Mets ever had.
And Both are so emotional to be winners that losing actually hurts them.
And winning makes Reyes smile go world wide.
They just need the other pieces to fill in on the team.
And now that Alou comes back, but does good like Church is doing, along with this upgrade of Delgado these may be the pieces to fill in what is needed.

I wish we can always make excuses when we don't play as well as we should. Bad throws, Bad catches--All around.
