MLB Umpires’ Online Auction To Benefit Children
One Week Remains to
Bid on Unique Experiences, Priceless Memorabilia
New York, NY (January 13, 2009)—A batting practice experience
with a major league baseball team, tickets to the All-Star Game, and a round of
golf with an NFL Hall-of-Famer are just a few of the items up for grabs in the
UMPS CARE Charities online auction at www.UmpsCare.com.
But if sports fans want to place bids on these unique
experiences, as well as signed memorabilia from sports greats Alex Rodriguez,
Sandy Koufax, Nolan Ryan, Willie Mays, and Wayne Gretzky, they’ll have to
hurry: The online auction ends next Tuesday, January 20. Items include
baseballs, jerseys, bats and other memorabilia.
Proceeds of the auction will support UMPS CARE Charities youth
programs, including Build-A-Bear Workshops® for hospitalized children coping
with cancer, as well as tickets to big league baseball games for children
awaiting adoption. UMPS CARE Charities is the official charity of Major League
Baseball umpires.
“Our online auction gives sports fans the opportunity to
participate in some once-in-a-lifetime experiences with their favorite sports
heroes while helping seriously ill and at-risk children,” said MLB Umpire Jim
Reynolds. “We urge fans to visit the UMPS CARE Charities website before time runs
out.”
Following the online auction, a live auction will be held on
January 22 in conjunction with the 4th Annual
UMPS CARE Charities Golf Classic in Scottsdale, Arizona. For more information,
or to bid on items, go to www.UmpsCare.com. Winning bidders will be
notified after January 22.
