Franco, a Brooklyn native, who spent 14 season with Mets as a player, was re-introduced today as a guest instructor at spring training. He actually is flying home today and then returning next month for a week. He will serve as an experienced voice to help young pitchers, while also investigating marketing, broadcast and even front office roles.
"I took some time off to be with my family," Franco said. "Now I've got the itch back."
While he might have the itch to coach - with some thoughts of somewhere down the line managing or coaching - he no longer has the itch to pitch.
"That's long gone," he said. "I can get anybody out from 40 feet."
