The news came today that the Treasury Department has increased its stake to 36 percent in CitiGroup. So the taxpayers have a pretty good share now and a pretty good argument that maybe the name that was floated jokingly on NPR last year, "Debits Field," is apt.
With the Yankees deal with Bank of America falling through it seems harder and harder to imagine the Mets getting much life out of Citi Field. They insist that the name won't change. But maybe they just need a new idea. Got any ideas for the name?
the rotunda's not enough:
Jackie Robinson Field.
should have been that way to begin with.

how about...
Wilpon Consolidated Field
that way we could call it W.C. Field for short.

I like that one - Not sure the Wilpon's will like it though.

Call it Shea Stadium again and just get a sponsor for the field. So the name could be SNY Field @Shea Stadium.
Or just call it Federal Reserve Field. They need all the PR they can get right now.
If this keeps up Hammer and Cycle Field will work.

Gil Hodges Field at U.S. Government Stadium

If we have any more season endings like the last two my suggestions would be either...
Heimlich Memorial
or
Flushing Downs
Seriously, I do long for the days when cities would name arenas after deserving citizens. I think something in honor of police or fire personnel would have been a nice touch. Something for ex military also would have been apropos but after considering it some more I thought I'd rather see the U.S. go commie before the Mets played in a home called Veteran's Stadium.

Not a bad idea - (not Flushing Downs) to honor someone. Maybe something 9/11 related since the Mets were a large part of that, playing the first game back after the attack.

Steve,
I've discussed on the air that I always felt that if a corporation REALLY wanted to score points with people they would pay for the naming rights but then would give it a moniker like Police and Firemen Field. They could still have their logo all over the place and get the "impressions" of all the fans who enter.
If they're still that worried about losing the company mentions via the stadium name on Sports Center or MLB Network then why not Citi Police & Firemen Field?
Just a thought.
BTW, I loved the suggestion from the above poster for Gil Hodges Field.
