Looking for an alternative to Oliver Perez?
Scratch one more name from that list.
The Mets announced that they have released Freddy Garcia after the surgically-repaired righthander posted an 0-2 record with an 8.18 ERA for the Class AAA Buffalo Bisons.
Jerry Manuel said Monday that he will watch Perez carefully Saturday and make no guarantees of a start beyond that one. But the Mets' list of candidates for the spot if Perez was moved to the pen or demoted is sparse - Tim Redding will be ready soon, but that is a drop down in talent from Perez with little upside. Dillon Gee was a favorite of Jerry Manuel in spring training, but he is off to a slow start in Buffalo - although his strikeout to walk numbers are more impressive than his record or ERA.
Nelson Figueroa re-signed with the Mets last week and will make the start for Buffalo tonight in Rochester.
realistically, are they even looking for an alternative for oliver? they just committed 12 mil a year to him for the next 3 years. sure, they can dl him and give him a few 'rehab starts', but he'd better improve because i think they are stuck with him

yeah but we can't lose games because of him. So if he does terrible again against philly, I would take him out and maybe use Redding.
