Mangini's kind of weather
Today's Jets' OTA practice at Hofstra included a sudden thunderstorm in the middle of it, including hail, of all things. Not golf-ball sized, but still, any hail is a surprise in this part of the country. Still, Eric Mangini must have loved it, because he wants his team to have experience working in such adverse conditions, in case it should come up on a gameday in the fall.
Good for Mangini, not so good for the media. I'm still trying to dry off.
As for the OTA itself, today was Kellen Clemens' day to work with the first team, and he looked good, at least from what I could see when I wasn't ducking hailstones. Clemens also did some holding for FG attempts, just as Brad Smith did last week. Interesting.
Rookie QB Erik Ainge, who recently had surgery on his right (throwing) pinky, didn't participate in practice but has been working in the classroom. Rookie LB Vernon Gholston still isn't here, but that's because of NFL rules. He is still doing classwork at Ohio State.
FS Abram Elam is back at work. He left the team two weeks ago to be with his family in Florida after older brother Donald Jr. was murdered.
Mangini had an interesting comment in his briefing about disgruntled TE Chris Baker, saying that 'everybody has different opinion' when asked about Baker's claim that the Jets promised to re-visit his contract if he had a good 2007 season. Obviously, the Jets disagree with Baker.
