RB Leon Washington was not at today's OTA session, but had a good reason for his absence. His fiancee, Charity, gave birth this morning to their first child, a son named Noel. We hope to be able to talk to Washington next Tuesday on the first day of mandatory mini-camp to get his take on the status of his contract negotiations.
RB Thomas Jones did practice, but again wasn't available in the locker room. LB David Harris was present, but didn't practice. Harris took a shot to the mouth from Jim Leonhard's helmet in a freak collision last week, and coach Rex Ryan indicated the Jets will err on the side of caution and shut Harris down until training camp next month.
But the questioning led to a typical Ryan moment. When asked about Harris' injury, he noted that he had a few teeth loosened [but not knocked out] and that he had some stitches in his lip. Ryan added he didn't know how many stitches [no, he wasn't asked] and jokingly said, 'We're hiding [the number of stitches]. We're keeping it from New England.'
As you can imagine, the room erupted in laughter.
That is a good reason to take its excuse.
