Brandon Dubinsky's contract impasse with the Rangers has ended as two sources have confirmed the 23-year-old restricted free agent center has signed a two-year contract.
UPDATE: Dubinsky's contract will pay him $1.7 million this season and $2.0 million next season. The Rangers, in the end, moved up to what Dubinsky was seeking. In the end, a big gamble on Dubinsky's part, holding out and risking being traded, works out for him.
"I just kind of said it was something I wanted to get done, I was tired of waiting, I didn't want to push this thing further," Dubinsky said. "I didn't want the team to be at their wit's end and I didn't want to be at wit's end myself. Wednesday was when I said it's time to get it done, let's push for this thing to be done. Thankfully, we were able to accomplish that goal."
Today marked the eighth day of Dubinsky's holdout. He is expected to skate later tonight at the Rangers' practice facility.

Hooray! This definitely means grachev starts in Hartford, but I think that's a good thing.

Finally!!!! can't wait to see the numbers and who gave in!!!!

Very good to have it done, hope he is ready to get to work on Monday.

I would rather see Dubinsky send a week or 2 in Hartford to make up for missing training camp. Hopefully they signed him for less than a million. With that said Rangers land will be deprived of rumors.

i wonder if Dubi is already doing his laps. if he gets away with not doing 'em, he owes his teammates a nice dinner somewhere down the line.

Andrew,
Do you know if Torts will have Dubinsky do the conditioning drills all his teammates had to do by himself? I would think so, he can't be behind them in that sense...
I'm just glad that this is finally over, with all the fighting back and forth of some fans feeling he was being disrespected and that the team should just roll over and do what he wanted even though they had all the leverage ... this was business, plain and simple ... Glad it's done!

Even though I think Sather has again overpaid a player he did take arbitration out of the equation. Hopefully Dubinsky pulls his head out of his a** and performs this season.

NYRBLUE23,
But the good thing is that we don't have to go through this next season ... and if Dubinsky does have a breakout season then we win, if not then well ...

So who gets screwed out of a spot? Voros? Byers? Lisin?
Grachev was going to start in Hartford anyway.
Posted by: bob | September 19, 2009 at 03:54 PM
Bob Byers was already cut, he is just here for today.

I don't know how those numbers can be right when the discussion originally was $700K for the first year. I smell a typo here ... is it $2 million for 2 years ($700K the first year) or $3.7 million for 2 years?
Posted by: Charles | September 19, 2009 at 04:00 PM
Charles,
Numbers are correct, $1.7 million this season, $2.0 million next season. Dubinsky got close to what he wanted.
Posted by: Andrew Gross | September 19, 2009 at 04:07 PM
Then there was a ton of misinformation out there because those aren't close to the numbers originally reported by LB/Post, etc. I'm pretty disappointed with Slats if these are the numbers for a restricted free agent without arb rights who doesn't have an offer sheet.

lol Dubi got more money than he asked for. Dump Voros please the guy is beyond worthless.
Posted by: graves9 | September 19, 2009 at 04:24 PM
Yeah well that is alot more reasonable than the 4 years, 16 mill he was reportedly asking!
Posted by: mjollnir9 | September 19, 2009 at 04:25 PM
If I'm not mistaken 4 years 16 million is what Bahstan was offering to Kessel.

"So who gets screwed out of a spot? Voros? Byers? Lisin?"
Byers was already cut, Voros being sent down isn't being scewed imho ... and Lisin should make the team .. he's playing well and creating offense
Posted by: Matty | September 19, 2009 at 04:53 PM
Losing Byers to waivers would suck. Keep him as a 13th or 14t forward. He could be as good as David Clarkson.
Posted by: bob | September 19, 2009 at 05:26 PM
Woah, Zipay is reporting that originally Dubinsky was asking for $16 million for 4 yrs ... WHAT? if this is true then SMART by Sather not to give into that ... that's $4 million per year
Posted by: Matty | September 19, 2009 at 05:33 PM
Voros is beyond useless? Are you watching the game? and last game?
Posted by: bob | September 19, 2009 at 05:42 PM
The four years, $16 million original asking price by Dubinsky is correct as far as I know, heard that last week.
Posted by: Andrew Gross | September 19, 2009 at 05:47 PM
Bob did you watch Voros game after November of last season? That he's starting out good isn't encouraging to me
Posted by: Matty | September 19, 2009 at 05:53 PM
Have you watched entire Rangers team after November?
Posted by: bob | September 19, 2009 at 06:09 PM
Voros is worthless, plain and simple. He started out great last season but then went to crap for the rest of the 74 games (or however many more he played). He can't skate, he can't fight, and he can't handle the puck. How does he get paid a million per season!?
Posted by: Johnny Boy | September 19, 2009 at 06:20 PM
Byers and Parentau have both played very well. No way does Byers get through waivers.
